If your friend's 500GB is in good working order, I see no reason not to use it; 500GB is still a decent bit for a new computer (especially for one meant for gaming, anything 160GB and higher in fact is fine). Regarding your parts list, there are two major changes I would make; Samsung optical drives aren't all that reliable, Lite-On or LG is a better choice, also Apevia is a very poor brand for power supplies; here is a better power supply that costs about the same: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371004. If you recycle the hard drive, you should be able to stick with the athlon ii x4, however for gaming and some multi tasking, the athlon ii x2 is also fine.

The ram and mobo should work fine together; you don't need anything higher than DDR3-1333 though unless you are overclocking, so if you get the DDR3-1600 ram, just set it for DDR3-1333 (you can lower the timings too if you want to tweak it more).

ATI 4650 is not going to do much with Crysis and will lag like there is no tomorrow. Your friend needs a 4850 or better. Even a 4870 lags with Crysis at medium settings.

Looks good, but I would go with DDR3 since it's about the same price as DDR2 right now, and it's price is dropping more, and will be a more futureproof choice; this ram and motherboard will work well for DDR3:
