Fans spinning but not booting

I'm trying to trouble shoot my dad's computer. It's factory built from a couple of years ago. It died so I bought him a SeaSonic 350 watt PSU. Plugged it in and it worked fine. My dad wanted to speed it up so he bought a couple sticks of ram. I installed them for him, but when I went to turn the system on it didn't boot.

The CPU fan and the PSU fan spin for half a second and the green power LED turns on, but no HDD spinning and no video. I have to switch off the PSU, to try again and the same thing happens.

I tried putting the old ram back in same thing happens. I tried putting only one stick of ram in each slot seperately, same thing. I unplugged everything but the motherboard and the PSU. Still nothing. I tries PSUs I know work, still nothing.

What else should I try?

Followed that guide, but nothing changes. I tried reseting the CMOS with the jumper and the battery. Same thing. Anyone know what's wrong? What component we fried?

As well there shouldn't be. You're not going to get video or any kind of bootup from just a board and psu. At the very least, you need a stick of ram and the cpu connected.

Try it with just psu, cpu and at least a stick of ram (preferably all known to be working) on the board.

Judging from everything you've said, though, sounds like you got a fried board there.

sorry I didn't proofread. I had one stick of ram in and the CPU was plugged in. I guess I'll get a new board and see what happens.
