New Build
Here are the components I am looking to buy. I have no previous building experience and want to know if these components are the best I could buy for my budget ($2000) and if they are compatible. I am looking to build an excellent gaming computer that will be fast at doing pretty much anything.
Current Components: Intel Core i5 750 Processor - 2.66GHz, LGA 1156, 8MB L3 Cache, Quad-Core, Lynnfield, Retail http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...3&sku=I69-0750 Seagate ST3250318AS Barracuda 7200.12 Hard Drive - 250GB, 7200, 8MB, SATA-300 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...sku=TSD-250AS8 Thermaltake Spedo VI90001W2Z Full-Tower Case - Clear side with 230mm Fan, Top 230mm Fan, Front USB x2, eSATA and Audio Ports, Black http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&sku=T925-1278 I can put an additional two fans onto this case. Creative Labs 70SB088600002 SoundBlaster X-FI Titanium Fatal1ty Pro PCIe Sound Card http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...9&sku=C44-3390 EVGA GeForce 9500 GT Video Card - 1GB DDR2, PCI Express 2.0, SLI Support, (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV, VGA Support http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&sku=E145-9504 Corsair XMS2 4GB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory Upgrade - 2x2048MB http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...6&sku=C13-6084 I'm looking into getting two sets of the Corsair for a total of 8GB of RAM Asus P7P55D Pro Motherboard - Intel P55, Socket LGA1156, Core i5 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&sku=A455-2913 Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 Hard Drive - 750GB, 7200RPM, 16MB, Serial ATA-300, OEM http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&sku=TSD-750AS This second hard drive will be used for any other memory needs. Lite ON DH-4O1S-73C Blu Ray 4x ROM OEM http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...6&sku=L12-1314 I know that I am in need of a power supply and am open to advice from you guys. Please verify that everything is compatible w/ the case. Also, do you guys think that i need a processor cooling fan as I've heard all the fans w/ the case are meant for overall cooling and not necessarily specific cooling, although some fans on the case are there for specific region cooling. I know that this list of components does not add up to my budget right now, so I am looking for any modifications to my current list as well as the above mentioned items. Also, if any of the parts are not compatible w/ each other, please recommend other components that I could use instead. All in all I'm looking for components that increase performance while maintaining my budget. |

Recommend Western Digital Black hard drives instead of Seagate.
Ram is not compatible, you need DDR3, recommend 1333 or 1600 speed. Recommend ATI video cards, the strongest your budget can handle for a gamer. Recommend Corsair, Seasonic, or Antec power supplies, at least 500 watts. If anything has to go, use the onboard sound instead of a sound card. Do you really need a Blu-Ray drive? The stock retail CPU fan is adequate unless you are overclocking. The case has enough fans already. |

I have made the following component changes based on your advice.
Kingston PC10600 1333MHz 2GB DDR3 Triple Channel Desktop Memory Upgrade http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...1&sku=K24-7070 Ill get four of these which will take care of all the available Ram slots for a total of 8GB ATI FireGL V3600 Video Card - 256MB, PCI Express, (Dual Link) Dual DVI, Workstation http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...399&CatId=3594 I'm still looking into the power sources. As for fans, I am looking to over clock so please advise. And thinking about it, I guess I don't really need to have the Blu-Ray drive. How's this instead. LG GH22NS50 DVD Writer - DVD+R 22x, DVD+RW 8X, DVD-RW 6x, DVD-RAM 12x, SATA (OEM) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...L49-1028%20OEM Last edited by Tyme Keeper; 10-24-2009 at 06:55 PM. |

Oh, and I also changed out the processor to the following
Intel Core i7 860 Processor - 2.80GHz, LGA 1156, 8MB L3 Cache, Quad-Core, Lynnfield, Retail http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...2&sku=I69-0860 |

No, that board takes dual channel ram, not triple channel. Buy them in matched pairs, and make SURE they are on the motherboard QVL.
That's not a gaming card, it's a professional workstation card. Look at the HD 4870. Just buy two standard SATA DVD burners. If you are going to overclock, you need an aftermarket CPU cooler, not more case fans. You also may want to WAIT till they get the 1156 socket issue taken care of. Please don't overlook my hard drive suggestions, you have chosen relatively slow drives. |

Okay. I don't really think I'll want to over clock then, 2.8ghz is a fine processor anyway.
As for the graphics, is this what you meant? XFX Radeon HD 4870 Video Card - 1024MB GDDR5, PCI Express 2.0 x16, CrossFireX Ready, (Dual Link) Dual DVI, HDTV http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&sku=P450-4884 And for the RAM, was I fine before with the Corsair XMS2 4GB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory Upgrade - 2x2048MB? In terms of hard drives, what do you suggest as faster drives? |

That is what he meant, although I would look for an ASUS version of that card if they have it.
That RAM will not work, as glc already stated. It's DDR2 and you need DDR3. He suggested Western Digital Caviar Blacks. |

Look up that motherboard on the Asus website, and find the "QVL" for it. It will list all tested ram. Look for "4096MB (Kit of 2)" of DDR3-1333 or DDR3-1600.
I'm not too pleased with you using Tiger Direct, but I assume that's because they will ship to your country? |

The ASUS mother board will support these.
OCZ Intel Extreme Edition Dual Channel 4096MB PC12800 DDR3 1600MHz Memory (2 x 2048MB) http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&sku=O261-7504 On my list I changed the hard drives to these. Western Digital WD7501AALS Caviar Black Hard Drive - 750GB, SATA-3G, 7200rpm, 32MB http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...ku=TSD-750AALS Western Digital WD5001AALS Caviar Black Hard Drive - 500GB, 7200 rpm, 32MB, SATA-3G http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...?EdpNo=4914330 As for the video card, I found an ASUS version of video card but am wondering if it would be okay to get the following instead. ASUS EAH5770/2DIS/1GD5 Radeon HD 5770 (Juniper XT) 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...5770/2DIS/1GD5 I put the New Egg site because I couldn't find the card on Tiger Direct. You were saying you didn't like Tiger Direct too much, should I just switch my cart out to New Egg since I'm going to be shipping my parts to the United States first. As for the power supply, how about this?
Corsair CMPSU-620HX 620-Watt Power Supply - 80PLUS, SLI-Ready, SATA-Ready http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...1&sku=C13-2505 Or should I go with the 750-watt version instead? Corsair HX750W 750-Watt Modular Power Supply - Single +12V Rail Design http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...506&CatId=2533 Last edited by Tyme Keeper; 10-25-2009 at 05:44 AM. |

If you are going to be placing a US order, I would DEFINITELY switch to Newegg.
The 620 is plenty of power. |

Newegg is more reliable too. Much more reliable. Tiger used to play a lot of rebate games. Don't know if they do anymore as I stopped looking there 3 years ago.
EDIT: just saw you are in Brazil, so not sure what that does to your options for mail-order. |

When I mail order, I would probably mail it to somewhere in the States and pick it up there. The customs in Brasil can really mess you up with up to 3 month waits for things as minimal as posters.

The only problem you are going to have is Newegg only ships to the same address that the credit card bill is sent to. If you are using a friend or relative's address, you will have to get them to place the order.

Glc, I've been living at a temporary apartment for the past few months for work and had several things shipped here. Its in Illinois and my credit card address and new egg address are both in Missouri at my house there.

Yes, you can do that, as long as your bank has the alternate shipping address listed on your account. However, Newegg isn't going to buy that if you try to use a Brazilian credit card.
