Nothing like hd video...

...to choke up your old computer system. Pity -- built with this community's help 3 yrs ago, my dual-core pc w/ intel e6300 & asus p5b-e mobo, etc, was a great workhorse, until now.... but it takes many minutes to render just a few seconds of hd video.

Wondering what you all think gives the best bang-for-the-buck in designing a system primarily for hi-speed video editing. I see that Khalil has a 12-core(?) processor (his is bigger than mine!), but that's an expensive item. And if i put crappy tires on a ferarri, it isn't gonna help me win the race.

Any suggestions on how to balance cpu, RAM, mobo, graphics card, etc, to get the best performance/ value out of the whole package? I'm looking to bring it in at close to a grand, but would spend more if it meant a big boost in performance. For now, just thinking about main components -- i can deal with psu, hdd's, etc. later.

thanks in advance for your input.

I'd build around an i7-860 and an Asus P7P55D.
