Gaming Build

Hey guys, I'm trying to build a gaming computer and have apparently exceeded the amount that the buyer (my father ) is willing to spend. So, this thread can be for one of two things: either giving me a good argument for why it is a worthwhile investment or suggesting lower priced components with similar performance. My game of choice is World of Warcraft, and while it generally isn't too taxing of a game, at high settings in 25 player scenarios its requirements get sorta... up there...

Anyway, enough with the explanation. Here's the build.

1. Change the DVD burner to a Lite-On, LG, Asus, or Sony.
2. Change the hard drive to a Black.
3. You can get a video card that will work very well for half that price. This can be your major savings. Take a look at an ATI 4870 1gb.

4. The Gigabyte board is decent, but also look at the Asus P5Q series.
5. You don't need DDR2-1066 ram, DDR2-800 is plenty sufficient.

6. You can cut the PSU back to a 550VX if you have to.

Ok, if you have a computer already, do you really need a new monitor, speakers and gaming equipment? Like that mouse and keyboard are pretty expensive. Not saying your wrong for wanting them, but if money is a issue, you could get them later.
1. I would say Definately go with the Radeon 4870 HIS H487FM1GH Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card , I am running one of these right now and it runs every game out (Crysis) maxed right now, at least at my monitors highest resolution.
2. Yeah, get the DDR2 800 glc suggested, difference is barley noticable.
3. Yes, get a Black Hard Drive Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive.
3. Would definately look into asus mobo, might be cheaper.
4. Do not need a 750W PSU for this Build, I would reccomend this, great PSU, cheaper, and no Mail in Rebate: Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W Continuous Power ATX12V Ver.2.2 / EPS12V version 2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC "compatible with Core i7/Core i5" Power Supply

*On another note, I would look to see if big cards fit in that case, my case is about 1.5 inches longer and my card just squeezed in, this is especially important if you go with the 275 because it is most likely bigger.

I have to buy the monitor and at least some input devices due to my current computer being a laptop (I also like the way the mouse and keyboard look... I'm a sucker for things that look cool). And every other monitor we have is currently in use (there are about 5 computers in my parents' house, dad gets bored). Thanks for the suggestions though, I have replaced the video card, ram, and power supply now.

I put in the Caviar Black 640GB HDD, Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870, Antec 650W PSU, 2x2GB Corsair DDR2 800, and a Lite-On iHAS424-98 DVD Burner bringing the price down a cool $170.

Any other possible suggestions? Maybe which Asus Mobo would be a good replacement?

Alright, so I think this is a pretty solid build. Let me know if there is anything else that needs changing.

[EDIT: Changed out the monitor for a smaller but less expensive one. Also may fit my desk better.]

Ah, my bad, changed it to a link. Also changed out the monitor, for reasons listed in my edit on the other post.
