I just put together a AMD Black 955 Sys. in a CoolMaster case. Asus M4A79T-Deluxe Motherboard. 8gig of 1600 3x memory, ATI 4870(512) video card, power supply is a 850W. The case came with 2 top 120mm fans (air flow in..) 1 front 120mm fan (air flow in..) 2 side case fans (air flow out..) and rear case has fan is 120mm (air flow out..) Total of 6 fans...3 in put...3 output. There is 1 open base fan position for a 140mm fan. I havn't installed that one yet. the system runs way to hot for all the fans installed. When playing CALL of DUTY4 CPU tem. creeps toward 120deg.F...Motherboard goes to around 104deg. F. I find it hard to believe it's running so hot with just 1 video card installed. I thought it was setup as...i fan input, all other fans output. I've emailed COOLMASTER about system fan direction of air flow, no luck. I didn't even count the powersupply fans..2 (air flow out) I'm just asking if anyone can tell me if the 2 top fans that came as input.. should be output also. Thanks, hope i didn;t put a lot of good people to sleep whit this one. casinojoe.

You want airflow from front to back, and low to high. You should have slightly more exhaust than inlet, and no fans blowing at each other. Experiment - and you may even get best results disconnecting one or more fans. I have NEVER had heat issues in any case that's reasonably large with one front intake and one rear exhaust.
By the way, as long as the CPU temperature stays below 60C and the video card stays within limits, you are fine - and the motherboard temp is a nonissue. |

Case fan configuration
Thanks for your imput. This is the first PC i've built that i had an over heating problem. My old P4 3gig. is still running well, and the case is half the size with only 3 80mm fans. i front in and 2 rear out. The video card in this pc has to run hotter being it's a full length BFG 8800 card. Mybe i'm missing something like cabling interfereing with the airflow. I'm still not sure that the 2 top fans should be blowing in or should be blowing out. Thanks again. casinojoe.

Top fans should blow OUT.........please review my first post.
Quote:
Front fans should blow in, top and rear fans should blow out, and you have to experiment with side fans - to balance out the intake and exhaust, and to try to maintain airflow from front bottom to rear top. Last edited by glc; 11-13-2009 at 04:40 PM. |

Sorry i didn't pick up on your input about the top fans. Changed the 2 top fans to blow out.
All temps took a dive. I ran a diagnostics program for pc hardware. I didn't know that i was cooking the video card. Video card temp. was up to 152deg.'s F. Video card now runs at 110deg.'s F while playing Call of Duty4 at 1920X1200. No more rebooting, or sound card failure. Thanks again. casinojoe.
