Christmas Upgrade
Ok
Christmas is fast approaching and Im thinking of upgrading my pc I have a fairly high end rig atm however wouldnt mind a little bit "more" I currently have cpu: Intel core 2 duo E8500 MoBo: Asus p5q Pro video card: Nvidia GTX 280 RAM: OCZ Reaper X HPC DDR2 PC2-6400 I have plenty of HDD space and have my OS so thats about it really My psu is 750W corasir TX series I was thinking of upgrading RAM and would it be worth going to a ddr 3 board? also if I was to go to a DDR3 board should I get an i7 proccesoor There is not a budget as such but nothing over the top Id say max of around £600 which is roughly $1000 dollars I think... thanks Striker |

Get an Asus P7P55D, a i5-750 or i7-860, and either 4 or 8 gigs of DDR3-1333 ram.

The prices have declined since then, thankfully, though from point of view they'd still be high.

Yes, the 920 is very good. However, the 860 is JUST as good, and the supporting motherboards are cheaper and less fussy.

how do you mean fussy? like complicated to work with?

Yes, they are complicated. The X58 chipset is for enthusiasts and overclockers. The most stable one out there is the Asus P6T Deluxe V2.

Ok I bought the parts today
After a lot of thought I went with ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 iX58 Socket 1366 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard http://www.ebuyer.com/product/159455 Corsair 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz XMS3 Memory CL9(9-9-9-24) for i7 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/152640 Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz Socket 1366 D0 stepping 8MB Cache OEM Processor http://www.ebuyer.com/product/161171 Would you guys mind explaining something to me I currently have the core contact freezer cooler, I have bought the i7 adapter for it but I dont have the original thermal grease which came with the heatsink but I do have artic silver 5, will this do the same job? If it will how much do I apply? The whole syringe thing? |
