Sticky on First Boot

It seems like I recently saw a Sticky or a helpful post of a Moderator on first boot procedures. Can someone direct me to it. Thanks

First boot prior to OS install,I go into the BIOS use default settings, set the date and time, and set the boot order to CD/DVD to first and HD second. If you are going to use other drives or a CF card reader, leave them unplugged until the OS is up and running.

I gather that when I turn of the computer the first time, it will default to BIOS settings?

When you boot up the first time, it will to a POST (Power On Self-Test), tell you of any critical errors (missing RAM, missing CPU, check for attached drives, etc). If you don't have an O/S installed, you'll see a "no operating system installed" error.

To enter the BIOS, you will have to press a key on your keyboard during POST. Most of the time you'll see a message displayed indicating which key to press, but otherwise, it's listed in your motherboard manual. Depending on make & model, it's usually Del, F1, F2, F10, or F11.
