Thumbs up Vetting My New Build

One lesson I’ve learned in life, never build a computer without vetting the components through the knowledgeable and generous folks here at PCMech. It is time to finally update my old P4 machine.

Proposed New Build – for Gaming, Video Editing, Photoshop (no plans to overclock). No budget constraints. Will use Windows 7 x64 Home Premium.

Intel Core i7-860 Lynnfield 2.8GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor

ASUS P7P55D LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard

CORSAIR DOMINATOR 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

SAPPHIRE 100283L Radeon HD 5770 (Juniper XT) 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16

Primary Drive: OCZ Vertex Series OCZSSD2-1VTX60G 2.5" 60GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid state disk (SSD)

Data Drive: Western Digital Caviar Green WD20EADS 2TB SATA 3.0Gb/s

LG DVD Burner Black SATA Model GH22NS50

COOLER MASTER COSMOS 1000 RC-1000-KSN1-GP Black/ Silver Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified

I selected parts that were in stock at Newegg. If there are better parts, I am willing to wait until they are in stock.

Any comments, suggestions or alternatives would be greatly appreciated!

Looks like an excellent rig, you chose really good components, my only recomendation is that you go either with a Diamond or an Asus for the video card just because Sapphire does not have direct RMA for end users.

That would be my SSD of choice if I had to buy one now. I have been told that Intels are the only ones that are truly stable and reliable.

I just noticed that the COOLER MASTER COSMOS 1000 is no longer carried by NewEgg.

Any suggestions for a large, cool, quiet case? No side window or glowing fans please. No budget limitations.

With no budget limitations, look at the Lian-Li cases. Most of the cases have no external lights, large decals, plastic alien heads or any of that crap. They really are very well constructed, professional looking cases. I have three of their cases.

This is my favorite: http://lian-li.com/v2/tw/flashpage/a70f&a71f/a71f/

At home I call it the Monolith. It looks like the monolith from 2001. Its black, rectangular and large...that's it. There are also some midsized cases that look similar.
