First Build - 3D Modeling PC
Hey everyone, I think I have posted like 3 of these...I swore I’m going to build this pc posts. This time it’s going to happen though. I have just graduated college and am going to use the cash to replace my dead laptop that decided to give out on me a month before my finals...yay.
On a side note, if anyone would know why my laptop no longer recognizes the video card and rolling back the drivers and reformatting windows wouldn’t fix it I’m all ears. Here is the pc I have on my build list. Case Antec 1200 Item#:N82E16811129043 $159.99 Power Supply Corsair 850w Item#:N82E16817139009 $139.99 Motherboard Asus Pt6 Deluxe V2 Item#:N82E16813131365 $289.99 Video Card EVGA GTX 295 Item#:N82E16814130504 $529.99 Processor i7 950 Item#:N82E16819115211 $569.99 Optical Drive Sony DVD Burner Item#:N82E16827118032 $33.99 RAM Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333 (3x2gb) Item#:N82E16820145220 $164.99 Hard Drive Western Digital Cavier 1TB Item#:N82E16822136284 $99.99 Operating System Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Item#:N82E16832116762 $174.99 Case Fan Antec 120mm Case Fan Blue Item#:N82E16835209011 14.99 Card Reader Rosewill Multi-Card Reader Item#:N82E16820223103 16.99 Total $2,195.89 I have steped down a few unnecessary things like the ram from 12 gb to 6. I had originally wanted to use an aftermarket heat sink. I will not be over clocking so I figured I would keep the factory warranty intact. The two things I really would like to hold my ground on are the video card and cpu. That being said, If anyone can give me a reason to go with anything else I am welcome to the suggestion. The use of this pc will be mostly business, some gaming. I will be using programs like 3ds max, maya, mudbox and zbrush, as well as video editing with premier and after effects. This is why I feel I need to invest in a more powerful machine. I wasn’t going to use a workstation card because I still wanted the ability to play games if I wanted to...and the $. I wanted to keep myself around 2000-2200 if at all possible. Also it seems a pain to find the EVGA GTX 295 Co-Op anywhere atm. This being said I can find other brands like BFG. Would I be missing out not going with EVGA? I know it’s a lot of questions; everyone here has been really helpful in the past. I just have never done this before, I have a friend helping me who has, but it’s still a lot of money. I want to make sure what I’m putting into this is right. So, thanks again. I look forward to reading what anyone has to say. |

3d modeling? I am learning to use Revit MEP, and regardless of what Autodesk says, I don't try to use it with less than 8 GB RAM. For the price of a 2 GB stick, I'd load up that Mobo. Also, does 3ds utilize multiple cores? (to my HUGE disappointment, Revit does not).
That being said, why the Antec 1200 case? The case doesn't necesarily come with fans, and if it does, they might not work (see NewEgg customer reviews). To keep your budget down, maybe try this- Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail Item#:N82E16811129021 $90 I used this on my first build this year, great case, lots of room to expand, very easy to work in. Good luck!
