PC parts reliabiltyIwant

I want to build ny own PC. I can either build it myself or have someone build my selected parts for me. If I build it myself I will have to deal with returns for defective parts. If I have someone else purchase and build the same parts he will take care of any parts that need to be returned and replaced.

Question: Should I be concerned about having to return defective parts when I build the PC myself or is this not a frequent issue?

Yes you will have to deal with "bad parts" every once in a while. That's why its recommended that you buy from vendors that offer good customer support. Think twice about auction sites because you know very little about the seller. The other reason you might consider having someone else build it for you, is if you make a mistake that destroys a part, it is on them, not you. I burned up a HDD on my first build, that stupid mistake cost me over $100, but I learned from it! Assembling a computer is not that difficult, making it work requires some knowledge.

I would call defective parts a relatively rare event. IF you buy decent parts from good brand names and use a site that has good service and business practices. Reading what gets recommended on this site is an excellent way to learn about this. Newegg is one example of a good place to buy from. Good selection. Excellent service, their shipping is very fast. The web site has a lot of info including reviews and feedback. I think I have had maybe one part that came bad out of the box in 5 system builds. And 1 or 2 items that died within the warranty (one was a flat-screen monitor). Oh and once had a system case get dented in shipping. They made good on that - sent a replacement. If you have a store to buy a case at locally you can avoid the shipping.
