pc wont turn on at all...

hey guys, im having trouble turning on my pc... at first i thought it was my powersupply but i think the power supply is working fine (lights on mobo turning on upon switching power supply on) so im thinking its the mobo or the power on switch connection...the problem started when i turned off the machine unplugged it and took out graphix card and plugged it back in because upon turning on my screen couldn't pick up the machine kept on saying to check connection... so i did that and when tried to start up the machine... it wouldn't start up at all... any feedback on what else it could be or how to fix it would be greatly appreciated....

using:

asus m2ne mobo
smart power antec 500W power supply
radeon 1900xt graphix
x2 athalon amd
2x 512 MB ram
sata hdd 350 gb

thank you for all of your help in advance... hopefully we can get this machine to work again

Would still look at the PSU. It could be working enough to power the mobo lite but still not power up the system. Try a known working PSU to eliminate the PSU.

the fault was indeed the powersupply but now im having a different problem. the pc turns on every time if i dont connect the hdd to the powersupply... but when i connect the hdd to the powersupply, it doesn't turn on... what is the problem there? the powersupply is a 600 watt powersupply right out of the box...

sounds as if the hard drive in question took a hit when the original psu took a vacation. The controller board on the hdd may very well been shorted and the psu sensing a short is inhibiting the power on circuit. Can you swap the system with another hdd which has an o/s?
