Second build, need parts advice
Hi everyone. Had a build reccomended to me clear back in 04 from here and im still using it today as we speak and its working wonderfull.
Obviously tho, things have changed greatly and i cant even play any new games on here now so... Time for a new build. I mainly surf the web and watch vids and listen to music, but i go through spurts of playing games when work is slow, so may as well classify it as a gaming computer. So now i need reccomendations, at least to get started, on where to go with this, i have no idea anymore what is concidered "too much, or not enough" or else id post up a build i thought would be good. My price im shooting for is $700, Monitor - 19" samsung LCD - Have Hard drive - Caviar blue 320 gig i think, SATA Have Speakers, mouse, keyboard - Have Windows 7 is what i plan to run, dont have it yet but i dont need to budget for it. Processor - Ram - Case - Motherboard - Video Card - DVD Burner - Main thing im concered with is future upgrades because as you can see i like to run a computer as long as i can, and this one i cant even updrade to get me by, doesnt even have a pci express slot. And note, the 700 is pretty firm, so id like to be at or just under if possible, but of coure if that extra 20 bucks will give me something noticably better then so be it lol ![]() Ok ill let u guys do what you do best.

As far as future upgrades goes, I would not look much past three years. If history holds true, by three to four years, you pretty much need to replace everything which clamps to the motherboard, including the motherboard itself. That's if you want to be able to run much of the latest software by then.
I don't have any specific recommendations but there are some experts here that build new budget computers all the time. Hold on...they are still in bed recovering from their hangovers. ![]() George, khalil....its time to get up.

You don't need 2200 as the core I7 doesn't support anything above 1333 without an overclock. This is all you need for memory here.

I would get an ATI 5770, they are the new ATI cards that support DX 11. They run cooler and use less power than the 48xx series.

The processor and motherboard are over your budget. Look at a base P7P55D and a i5-750. All you need is 1333 speed ram, make sure it's on the QVL. You need a power supply, that case doesn't come with one.

The QVL's are on the Asus site. Look up the motherboard and you should find it.

well i got all my parts and i FINALLY got home from work so im happy but one think im pissed about is that moterboard was an open box item, and it has NO manual, no driver disk, no cables, and the thing that im mainly mad about is no I.O panel. grrr, the others i can deal with but i want that panel, and the cords would be nice too.....
I know open box item says some accessories may be gone, should i be mad or not. screw it im still building it tonight, im not waiting to buy another i.o panel, ill contact them via email and see if they will send me anything. |

Why did you buy an open box?
I apologize, I didn't notice the price when I last scanned the thread or it would have clicked - and I would have warned you about open box. Not a good idea EVER for motherboards. |

dang, oh well live and learn.
anyways, ive reached a snag. Got her all together, and all the asus led hardware checks pass ecept the video card one, that led stays lit. I have no signal to my monitor. I have the video card installed in the pcie number 1 slot, (the blue one) i cant seem to find any trouble shooting items for this on the asus site... where do i start on checking this out? thanks. Ps, i noticed it was open box before i bought it, and i did a search for that model and that was the only one, an open box item...unless i missed something. |

Hey one question, it says not to connect the usb (for the front usb slots) to the ieee 194a plug on the motherboard or it will damage the mb.
well i was in a hurry and didnt realize it but i did that, instead or the usb slot. Anyone think that did anything to it?? |

Probably not, if there was damage the motherboard will hang at start, if all is running well then no worries
