Cool Want to test my fans and heatsink before I go onto further installlation.

Hello first time builder her try not to laugh but I wanted to know if you could test the power supply, heat sink and other fans by just simply hooking up the power supply to the motherboard? I've tried it several times and nothing happens.

I also had my power supply hooked up to my motherboard to and flipped the switch on the back of the computer and nothing happened? The fans on the PSU did not turn on. Is this because I don't have my computer fully set up yet? I had the power connectors from the PSU plugged into the motherboard and the Heatsink plugged in as well.

If anyone has any advice or knowledge it would be greatly appreciated

Patients young grasshopper....Just wait till you get all the parts

There are ways to "jump" aka bypass the power supply to do this...But your odds of destroying the mobo and power supply go way up.

Hi.

Don't be too discouraged. If I read your post correctly, I made the same mistake too. Connecting the power-supply to the motherboard is not sufficient. The step I believe you missed is to turn the computer On via its "On" button. The way you do that is to momentarily bridge the switch on the motherboard with a flat-bladed screwdriver (the case has a "Power" or "On" button on its front panel which, when pressed, triggers the system to start by connecting two pins on the MB; you use a flat screwdriver blade as a surrogate for pressing that On button -- you make the connection between those two pins).

There is a sticky post in this forum for troubleshooting, and it will walk you through what I think you want to do.

I believe you will need to install the cpu before it will boot. An alternative would be to use a testing power supply But if you are just starting out I would caution against it. Wait until you get all the parts and follow the sticky for assembly. That will provide all the testing you need.
