Building a system for my mom.
As the title states, my mom is needing a new system. She bought this junk Dell, the cheapest one they had, a few years ago, and it has gave nothing but problems. I always build mine, so I offered to build her one. I build mine so far and few between, that I don't know what the new stuff is at the time, so I am here for help.
As to what she will need, everything but the monitor. Her or my sister, don't really game, unless you count facebook farmtown as gaming, lol. I would want something that is decent enough to last though, and nothing that will be outdated in a year or so. She needs this to last. She will need windows with it too, is windows 7 acceptable? Or should I go with XP still? Also, she is only wanting to spend about 600-700 total. The lower the better for her though. Thanks for the help.

Built the system yesterday, got the parts that glc suggested. Everything works great, most of the install went better than can be hoped for. The only problem I have is the LED lights on the front of the case. Power LED cable and the HDD cable. I can't get either to work. One of the cables has 3 holes in the plug, but the MB only has 2 pins for it. I've tried all combinations I can think of, and nothing is working. The reset and power buttons work fine though. Any suggestions?

Do you have an old dead pc around? One you can get a 2 pin plastic housing so you can move the pins from the 3 pin housing to the 2 pin housing?
If you look on the plastic housing at the end of the wires, on one side it has slits, if you lift those slits the metal pins at the end of the wires will come out easily. You will need something really thin like a tiny blade to lift the plastic slits. If you don't have a spare 2 pin housing then simply lift the slit on one of the 2 outside pins and move it to the middle then plug it onto the motherboard.

Look carefully in the manual, many boards also have an alternate header set up for 3 pin connectors.
