New intel build
I'm looking at building another computer. I currently am running an E8400, Asus P45 board, with an ATI 4850. It's not really in need of upgrading, but I'm probably going to be handing it down to my girlfriend as her computer just died. So I thought I may as well just build a new one.
Here is what I'm looking at: Case: Antec 300 Video Card: Asus 5870 ATI PSU: Corsair 750Watt Modular RAM: G.Skill 2x2GB MoBo: Asus P7P55D CPU: Intel i7-860 No real budget, I just don't want to overspend. It will be used for gaming, Netflix, coding, and surfing. Any thoughts would be great. |

What are you using for cpu cooler ?
Currently Newegg has a lot of deals (300 comes with Belkin surge protector) but I love their 900's and it's additional $40/ (you can never have enough cooling) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=Top%20Sellers |

The stock CPU cooler is adequate unless you overclock.

Yeah, I usually just throw an old HD in, but I should probably just get a new black.
Also, I have an MSDN subscription through work, so I don't need an OS. Sidenote: Is Fry's Electronics very reputable? I've always shopped Newegg, but I recently moved to a bigger city that actually has a Fry's. Their prices are pretty comparable. Last edited by alanebro82; 01-16-2010 at 05:27 PM. |

Fry's can be a bit iffy. They are kinda like Tiger Direct - they carry a lot of crap and distressed merchandise, and they have a habit of putting returns back on the shelf and selling them as new. If you know exactly what you want, and inspect the merchandise carefully, you will do okay.

I've had a mix of experiences at Fry's, but overall fine. I also appreciate being able to see the product in-person. By the way, you can often get information about a retailer's reputation with one or both of these: 1. Better Business Bureau Online. http://www.bbb.org/online/consumer/default.aspx Fry's gets a highest-possible A+ rating (at least, the stores near me): http://sanjose.bbb.org/Business-Repo...tronics-210401 2. Reseller Ratings. http://www.resellerratings.com/ Fry's gets a low score. http://www.resellerratings.com/store...ronics_Outpost |

I pulled the trigger on the order yesterday; it should arrive tomorrow. Only thing I changed was:
