So the parts finally came and i've assembled them. I still don't have the video card tho (and my mobo doesn't have any onboard video).
I wanted to put everything together so that when the gpu came i could plug and go. This is my build. * LITE-ON Black SATA DVD-ROM Drive Model iHDS118-04 - OEM57628732 * ASUS VE246H Black 24" 2ms(GTG) HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor - Retail * RAZER Lycosa Black USB Wired Standard Gaming Keyboard * Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive57628732 * Crucial 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model CT2KIT25664BA1339 - * Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80605I5750 * CORSAIR CMPSU-1000HX 1000W ATX12V 2.2 * ASUS P7P55D PRO LGA 1156 Intel P55 ATX Intel Motherboard - * Thermaltake ArmorPlus(Armor+) VH6000BWS Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case plus an asus radeon 5970 when it gets here. Problem: The motherboard has a cool thing where it has LEDs by the parts that light up (maybe a lot have that idk) to let you know when there is something that isn't correct when booting up. I followed the installation instructions very closely, but when i boot up, everything turns on good and stuff but then there is a red led light on the "cpu led" and then also on the "dram led". Maybe these are just lighting up because i don't have my video card yet and its failing to boot because of that? Oh, and also i needed an "Optical Drive Audio Connector (4-pin CD) and i didn't have one because my optical drive came OEM. Should most cases usually come with one ? Or should i order one? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks guys |

Having problems with a new build? Try this. Try this for the computer when you get the graphics card and are still getting red lights on the mobo. As for the "optical drive audio connector" I think it's reffering to SPDIF which is not necessary. All you need is the Sata connector and Sata power for that drive.

For the memory:
Try reseating the RAM. Once that's done, fire it up. When you see the dram led light up, press and hold the MemOK button until the dram led starts blinking, then release it. The PC should reboot after that. If it does, (from what I understand) you're good. For the CPU, double check that your HSF is plugged into the motherboard and try rebooting. |

This is what the manual says about my Onboard LEDs. "Post State LEDs check key components (CPU, DRAM, VGA card and HDD) in sequence during motherboard booting process. If an error is found, the LED next to the error device will continue lighting until the problem is solved. This user-friendly design provides an intuitional way to locate the root problem within a second." The 'cpu led' turns red for half a second then the dram led turns red for half a second then the cpu again. Then there is a green led that stays green in the bottom right corner of the mobo that says 'sb pwr'. This happens when i turn it on and it only stays on before it shuts itself off in about 3 seconds. I've taken out and reseating the RAM numerous times. I don't have enought time to hit the MemOk! button before the system turns off. The heatsink/fan is plugged in to the mobo. Still shuts down in 3 seconds, with those red lights turning on for a half second each. Edit: Have also tried only using 2 DIMMs instead of four in the a1 and b1 bays as the manual instructs. Edit 2: Edit 2: I guess the manual says "stays lit" for the LEDs, and mine aren't exactly doing that i suppose. They are moving back and forth, and maybe its just going through routine checks (lighting LEDs) and then when it gets to the VGA, it isn't detected (since i don't have my video card yet) and its just shutting down because it cannot display an image. So maybe nothing is wrong? Last edited by snowave6; 03-02-2010 at 05:08 PM. |

Did you plug in the 8 pin power connector next to the CPU? I forgot to plug in the 4 pin power connector for my board and it wouldn't boot up, until I plugged it in

Did you do a proper out-of-case build first, before you put all of your hardware into the case?
The best way is to start this troubleshooting process is to follow the link ryuk999 gave you, which I have listed below again for you to look at. Having problems with a new build? Try this. |

Motherboard Question?
You were advised to WAIT. Pull the motherboard back OUT of the case and WAIT. Do this FIRST when you get the video card. Having problems with a new build? Try this. |

Yeah, all plugs are connected, i've double checked and rechecked.
I think it might just be a missing video component. Going to wait to see if the vgu install fixes the issue. If not i'll run the out of case build and re-try. Thanks for the comments

So I figured out what the problem was with the booting shutdown in the process of trying to re-organize my cables so it looked neater. Took me about two hours of fiddling around, replugging cables, changing cords, etc. to find out that my power button was pushed in and not being un-pushed so to say.
So when i turned on my power supply, everything got running without having to hit power. Then once it was on, the button was still being pushed so it thought i was shutting it off. So now, i turn it on, push power and it runs and doesn't shut off (still without a video card, ugghhh so over this wait!). It looks neat in there now too! So if anyone was curious what was happening, that was it, and problem solved. I'll post pictures once everything is fully up and running, i can't wait to see this 5970 in action. I know a lot of you have been helping me through my first build, so thanks for your patience

That's the reason we recommend the out of case build first. It would have saved you all that work of trying to figure out what was wrong.
Glad you figured it out.
