New build problem- power supply?
I am working on my first build and have run into a problem. I have installed all components into the case and when I turned on the power to the power supply, I get a green led at the power button (lower right corner) on the motherboard, but nothing works and no other lights, fans, etc. come on. I have disconnected everything from the power supply and connected it to just a fan and turned it on and the fan does not operate.
Initially I was thinking that it was an issue with the chassis intrusion connector, but I jumpered this and didn't change anything. Is my power supply bad, or have I done something incorrectly or could I have a different issue? Case- Wind Storm 301-WBL w/ RaidMax RX-500S power supply MB- MSi 790FX-GD70 CPU- AMD Phenom X4 955 Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the link. I had read If I plug the power supply directly into the dvd drive and power up the power supply should I get power to the drive so the door will open? I have done this and get nothing at the drive.
Also, the fan on the p/s does not spin up. Should this happen just by plugging it in, or does the mobo tell it to spin up, or is it heat triggered? Thanks for the help. |

No. you HAVE to connect it to the motherboard to start it (or jumper the green wire to a black wire on the main connector with a paperclip), please read the linked thread again.

That doesn't surprise me either - MSI's have a pretty high failure rate out of the box and after a short period of use. It happens.
