New build problem- power supply?

I am working on my first build and have run into a problem. I have installed all components into the case and when I turned on the power to the power supply, I get a green led at the power button (lower right corner) on the motherboard, but nothing works and no other lights, fans, etc. come on. I have disconnected everything from the power supply and connected it to just a fan and turned it on and the fan does not operate.

Initially I was thinking that it was an issue with the chassis intrusion connector, but I jumpered this and didn't change anything.

Is my power supply bad, or have I done something incorrectly or could I have a different issue?

Case- Wind Storm 301-WBL w/ RaidMax RX-500S power supply
MB- MSi 790FX-GD70
CPU- AMD Phenom X4 955

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It may be - Raidmax is not a quality power supply.

Thanks for the link. I had read If I plug the power supply directly into the dvd drive and power up the power supply should I get power to the drive so the door will open? I have done this and get nothing at the drive.

Also, the fan on the p/s does not spin up. Should this happen just by plugging it in, or does the mobo tell it to spin up, or is it heat triggered?

Thanks for the help.

No. you HAVE to connect it to the motherboard to start it (or jumper the green wire to a black wire on the main connector with a paperclip), please read the linked thread again.

That doesn't surprise me either - MSI's have a pretty high failure rate out of the box and after a short period of use. It happens.
