Advice on new rig.

Hi PCMech, it's been a while.

As you can see by my signature, the old build is getting a wee bit outdated. Since I haven't been following the "scene" at all, I decided to turn to this forum for some advice.

I would like to build a new PC from scratch (I don't intend to re-use any of my old components as they have served their purpose now ). I'm not mentioning a budget since I live in Europe and prices are different over here unfortunately.

What I'm looking for is a "sweet spot" build, nothing too expensive. The most important thing is that it has enough storage (2 TB at least), a HDMI port and that I can play some games that don't require a monster PC (atm Heroes of Newerth, probably D3 in the future).

It will mostly be used as a media center and occasional gaming rig.

Lots of love,

moose.

Hi Moose,
Don't tie any ones hands.
We have a large number of European members and we can count in Euros (Really!) so give us a budget and they can check it out.

Do you want AMD or Intel this time?

Hi

I'm picking up parts of the rig second hand, but I was thinking of spending around €400 on the rig, excluding a monitor. I found someone who's selling a Coolermaster Silencio case for around 40, so if all goes well I'll have my first component pretty soon.

I'm thinking of building and Intel rig this time, glc, although it's not set in stone. I've been told to look at the i5/i7 series. I can pick a matching motherboard myself, but you guys usually have working knowledge of which boards to avoid so I figured it can't hurt to get some extra opinions.

Thanks

I'd build with an i5-750 and one of the Asus P7P55 series boards.

Thanks GLC I've ordered both of those. I also picked up a 2nd hand case and PSU, I hope these are alright by today's standards
