All I wanted to do was build a new pc that would be fairly quiet, and fairly fast. So I bought the parts and built it, but the display cuts in and out. This morning it worked for about 2 hours perfectly, but then the display starts cutting in and out. At first I thought that it might be that something was overheating, but I was able to read the CPU temp (33 - 36 C) and the GPU temp (38 - 51 C) and they seemed to stabilize at CPU 33C and GPU 41C. I have tried switching video cards, both cards are similar and both show the cutting in and out. I did install an extra 120mm fan blowing directly on the video card. I basicly don't know what to do next. Here's a list of components:
Motherboard: Asus P6T Deluxe V2 CPU: Intel i7 - 920 Bloomfield 2.66 Ghz RAM: Corsair Dominator 66b DDR3 1600 CASE: Antec P183 with 4 nexus 120mm fans and noise dampening case insulation Power Supply: Nexus RX-6300 630 watt CPU cooler: Zalman CNPS10X quiet 120mm Windows 7 Professional Video Cards: Installed now: EVGA GeForce 9800 GT 16B 256 bit GDDR3 Also tried: Gigabyte GV-N98TSL-1GL Silent Cell 9800 GT Please someone take pity on me and help. I'm about ready to put it out on the driveway and run over it. |

You say both cards cut in and out. Have you tried a different monitor yet?

Like orbit I would like to know what monitor you're using and if you can hook it to another computer, impose on a friend, for a few hours.
If the monitor clears and since you've already exchanged video cards that would leave the following : I'm not familiar with your power supply but it got a pretty good review over at HardOCP so we'lll put it on the "maybe" list for now as a possible problem : http://www.hardocp.com/article/2009/...upply_review/1 Have you checked out the Asus forum to find out if there are any reports of similar problems with your motherboard ? http://vip.asus.com/forum/topic.aspx...Language=en-us edit : Check Event Viewer as well for possible leads.

Thanks for the replys. I'm embarrassed, for some unknown reason I've had the computer on all day today and it has not acted up. I don't know what I did that made it straighten up but I just hope that it continues to work good.
Yesterday, I did try 2 different monitors and both of them acted up. One is a Samsung 204e the other is an older innovision Mag. |

Well, I knew it was too good to be true. It worked pretty good all day yesterday, but then today, it started acting up again. I tried to read the links that pam123 had for me, but I couldn't find anything that helped. About all I know to do is replace hardware, but where do I start? Power Supply? Graphics Card? Motherboard? Any suggestions?
It still may end up on the driveway under the truck. |

What you were looking for was information about new chipset drivers and bios updates for that motherboard.
Bios update for Win 7 :http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/5...-new-bios.html last year Asus also released new drivers for that board for Win 7 beta drivers here : http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/8...deluxe-v2.html I would link you to the Asus page for the downloads but I'm completely unable to get on their site at present. If this doesn't do it then go shopping for a new motherboard. |

Do you have a suggestion for a good replacement motherboard, I hate to get the same make and model again since I've had so much trouble with this one. I did run Ubuntu from a CD and the flashed and flickered at me then too. So, it must not be a windows problem, but something else.
Thanks for your help. |

Oh, I forgot, when I run Windows in safe mode it acts up and I did upgrade the bios on the motherboard but that didn't help either..

No problem but, get in touch with Asus Support first.
The board should still be under warranty which means they will replace/repair it ( I've had to deal with them before and it's painless. ) and they have a 10 business day turn around time. As for another board, what amount do you want to spend and do you intend to overclock ? |

Well at this point I'll be happy with something that works. I probably won't overclock, but it would be nice to have the option available. The Asus was $289.99, so anything that would work up to that price.

Intel on Intel is a good recipe for stability and this will work well with what you've already got since you won't be overclocking :

What happened to this build?
Before I spend my hard earned money If you had posted that you wanted to build with an X58, we would have tried to discourage you. The X58 platform is for tweakers and enthusiasts, not casual home builders. Contact Asus support and get your board straightened out. There are only 2 good stable X58 boards out there - you have one and the P6TD Deluxe is the other one. We also tried to discourage you from getting that 9800GT. Pam, Intel branded boards are no longer high quality boards, they have their share of issues now. |

In retrospect, I should have stuck with that first build. I appreciate all of the help, and certainly the problems are all of my own doing. My main goals are fast and quiet, so I guess that I got carried away.
If I call asus, how do I know that it's a motherboard problem and not something else? |

Tell them exactly what's going on and see what they say.
