If what I"m seeing is right, the MB and processor both support 1066mhz, and the installed ram is 800mhz.
How much do you want to spend? You could bump your ram to 2 x 2gb of 1066, or just add 2gb of 800. You could do more if you go Win 7 64bit, you should be compatable. But I'd run Microsoft's check first. That's a decent processor I wouldn't change it, although the board does support the Extreme variety. Prices have dropped for the socket 775. I looked kinda' quick on newegg for a processor and I don't think anything they've got is worth it for you. Your cpu has 4mb cache the ones I pulld up show a 3mb cache, you need a good cache for video editing. I also pulled up some over 3 gig cpu's but they are rated at 1333, I think it'd be a waste of money, since your mb only suports up to 1066. You could go this route, I think: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115037 It may work but only at 1066, you would get the advantage of 6mb cache and 3ghz, but not the fsb. Some body who knows more than me, can confirm. Don't sweat the graphics card for video editing. I've got a similiar one and it's a great card. My son plays new games on it @ medium settings on an AMD 939 system.

I would add 2 more GB of matching ram. I don't think a processor upgrade would be cost-effective. If you want to play, I understand that a Q6600 can be easily overclocked to 3 GHz. That motherboard can handle 1333 with a bios update, so you COULD put a E8500/E8600/Q9550/Q9650 in it if you wanted, but again, not cost-effective. You are going to need a larger hard drive real soon if you start HD video editing. |
