Recent build keeps feezeing

Hey all, I recently put together a build and after a week or so it began to freeze. It's odd because I there are certain things that will trigger a crash (sending and attachment in gmail, installing programs...) I get the feeling that this is a ram issue. So I'm back on default settings. What should I do?

ASUS P7P55D-E Pro
CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB)
Intel Core i7-860 Lynnfield 2.8GHz
Antec 430W
Radeon 4550

Since it's a recent build, I'd verify that the CPU's HSF is locked down properly. If it moves when you touch it, it's not locked down.

Second, if you want to test your RAM, memtest86+ is the tool you can do that with.

Curious as to what you mean by "default settings." Do you mean that your RAM settings in your BIOS are back to default? Where you trying to overclock you RAM?

As Force mentioned, use memtest86+ to test you RAM. Another suggestion would be to pull one of the sticks of RAM and do the same things you have been doing to get the freeze. By process of elimination you may be able to determine if you have a bad stick of RAM very quickly.

I wasn't trying to OC it, after the problems began I was going through the bios and noticed that the dram frequency in auto mode set it as 1333 where as it should be 1600 changing it didn't change anything so I'm back in auto mode.
I double checked the heatsink (thanks force).
Ran memtest with each stick individually, than with both. No errors.

Run it at 1333. To run it at 1600 you have to overclock the processor. The ram controller is on the i7 itself, not the motherboard.

I tried that. It doesn't seem to help. Any other thoughts?

Didn't you say that it's running okay at default settings?

No, it's freezing under normal setting, and thus far under all settings.
