2007 Build Upgrade

I built my computer in 2007. I'm wanting to upgrade some components to allow FSX while running Vatsim to run smother and faster at higher if not highest graphic settings. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Here's what I currently have.

OS Windows XP Pro 32 bit
CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Ram 2.0 GB DDR2 222 MHz
Mother EVGA nForce 750i SLI (Socket 775)
Graphics 512 GeForce 7950 GT (EVGA) x 2 running SLI
Power Antec NeoPower 550 550W ATX12V SLI

Would like to keep it under $300 but willing to go to $500

Thank in advance for the help

Trent

How much are you looking to spend?

What power supply do you have?

Essentially all you need to upgrade is your video card for better performance in games. Everything else comes second.

Look at brands Asus/Diamond: HD 5770

Is FSX the only game your running?

Replace those video cards with one high end card and upgrade to 4gb ram.

FSX isn't the only game I'll run. I might run others from time to time. but really it is the only one I really care about as I have a PS3 and 360.

Unlike most games, FSX is heavily CPU dependent. Normally I would say upgrade your graphic card but this is not necessarily the case with FSX. FSX cannot utilize quad cores. FSX has not been upgraded by Microsoft in years. Go with the fastest dual core you can afford and overclock the hell out of it....or consider an i7.

I have an E8500 that I have clocked and stable at 4.1 GHz. I am getting over 30FPS in FSX with everything cranked up except for the weather. Anti-aliasing is on but at the lowest level.

Since FSX is also graphics card dependent of course, look at a 5870. I would not bother with a 57XX.

Ideally, you want to have 4 gigs of RAM for FSX.

I just received the parts for a new computer, the CPU is an Intel i7-860. I still don't know if the new CPU will give me better frame rates in FSX...but I will try to get back to this post in a few days when the new computer is up and running and have done a few carrier landings. Hopefully without the low frame rate jitters.

I realize that this is over your budget but this is what will run FSX faster from what I have experienced and studied about FSX.
