Cheap Gaming PC - Budget Build 500$

I want to build a gaming pc, but my budget is 500$. So i want to know some cheap parts that will allow me to play new games like "The Old Republic" but also parts good enough to last me a while. My case can hold ATX and Micro-ATX motherboards.
I prefer parts from newegg, tigerdirect, or bestbuy.
I need all the parts for the pc: motherboard, ram, hard drive, cpu, etc....

If it's not possible to build a good gaming pc with 500$, then can you just give me a list of parts for a good regular pc up to 500$
Thanks, for any help.

Up the video card to this one : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125238

And check the ram qvl list for the motherboard and I'll agree .
Biostar has an on/off reputation, just now they're getting a rep for budget builds and this board may be a good deal.
Head over to here : http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...erboard&xtcr=1

None of the above. All 3 of them have 1 or more substandard and/or unnecessary components.

OK; I still think you need a better video card, as per the link, but otherwise go for it!

Not bad for the price at all... looks like you should get good power out of that build and the price is just as nice.

I wonder if I should use that card for my upgrade... I have never used ATI card but I have no reason not to...

This isn't my build but but I was interested in the discussion of the video cards. I have this for my build:

ASUS EAH5670/DI/1GD5 Radeon HD 5670 (Redwood) 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Retail (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121362)

I had already looked at the chart at Tom's and it seems to be a good card (I do a little gaming but I'm more concerned with buying a card that will be good for a while).

Looking at this thread this would be a better card? GIGABYTE GV-R485ZL-512H Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Retail (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125238)

I guess my question is why it would be better? It has less memory but a different chipset that offsets that? I see my card is also out of stock now so if I'm going to purchase this weekend I need a different card.

Thanks

Chipset Manufacturer ATI
GPU Radeon HD 5670 (Redwood)

Core Clock 775MHz
Stream Processors 400 Stream Processing Units
Memory
Effective Memory Clock 1000MHz (4Gbps)
Memory Size 1GB
Memory Interface 128-bit
Memory Type GDDR5

Chipset Manufacturer ATI
GPU Radeon HD 4850

Core Clock 625MHz
Stream Processors 800 Stream Processing Units
Memory
Effective Memory Clock 1920MHz
Memory Size 512MB
Memory Interface 256-bit
Memory Type GDDR3

The key numbers are no. of Stream Processors, and Memory Interface bus (higher is better).
The Core clock speed isn't always an indicator of performance - just like in regular CPUs.

As another example here are the numbers from the 5970

Chipset Manufacturer ATI
GPU Radeon HD 5970 (Hemlock)

Core Clock 725MHz
Stream Processors 3200 (1600 x 2) Stream Processing Units
Memory
Effective Memory Clock 1000MHz (4.0Gbps)
Memory Size 2GB
Memory Interface 512 (256 x 2)-bit
Memory Type GDDR5

glc, I believe I asked a specific question about video cards (and how to diifferentiate betwen cards) made in this thread and used a reference to my build to help make the point but I'll remeber that for future questions.
Thanks!
