do I need to buy another PSU?
Hello everybody,
This is my first post, I'm new to the forum and so I'm still learning! I have a question regarding my PSU. I have a Dell XPS 730x which carries a 1000W PSU. My specs are as follows Core i7 920 2.66Ghz NVidia Geforce 9800 GT 1TB sata HDD DDR3 Tri Channel 3GB 1066Mhz RAM Stock Cooler Now, I'd like to buy the CorsairDominator Tri Channel 6GB DDR3 RAM - 1600MHz http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...847&CatId=4093 as well as overclock the CPU to 3.2 Ghz, and perhaps down the line buy a new video card, my question is, how can I make sure my PSU can handle all of these additional strains? How much additional strain will 3GB 1066Mhz --> 6GB 1600 MHZ and 2.66Ghz ---> 3.2 GHz and NVidia 9800GT ----> NVidia 480GT put on my PSU? Is there any way I can determin this? |

A 1000 watt PSU can power almost any system known to man.
Are you sure that the system is overclockable and can take advantage of 1600 speed ram? Historically, Dells have not been overclockable. |

The 730x is apperently one of the rare dells to have an unlocked BIOS, so I may be lucky!
What would I need to have done in order to take advantage of 1600Mhz RAM? Sorry I'm still trying to learn! Also how much more power/Watts do you think that RAM kit (6GB 1600Mhz) would demand over my current (3GB 1066Mhz)? |

Maybe one watt?
http://en.community.dell.com/dell-bl...explained.aspx You probably need 1600 speed ram to get any kind of significant overclock out of the system. |
