First Build

Hello everyone,

So I decided to try something new and build my computer. This is my first time, so please forgive my ignorance. I am looking to build a gaming computer. Ideally, it would be able to play current games at higher end settings, be on the quiet side, be open to future upgrades, and cost roughly $1000. Based on the forum threads I pieced together the build below, any advice on improving it (or if it even works, really) is appreciated.

Motherboard: ASUS M4A785TD-V ($99.99)
CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 ($59.99)
Video Card: DIAMOND Radeon HD 5870 ($419.99) (Worth the extra $100 over 5850?)
RAM: CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 ($114.99) (DDR3 > DDR2 I take it)
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB SATA 3.0Gb/s ($69.99)
Optical Drive: ASUS Black ($22.99)
Power Supply: CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ($89.99)
Case: Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower ($54.95)
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Full ($179.99) (Never realized it was so darn expensive)

Total: ~$1,113

Thanks for your help!

Win 7 Home premium OEM
$80 less, same thing.

I'd go for the 5870 if you can afford it if your a gamer!

If it's any cheaper, DDR3-1333 is just as good in this application. I personally wouldn't spend an extra $100 on the video card, the return for the dollar isn't that significant. The 5850 is a very strong card.

Thanks for the advice ryuk999, glc, and Khalil. I think ill go with the 5850 in the end then. As for the DDR3-1333, looking through Newegg I didn't find any that really offered solid savings and had good ratings. Ill look some more, but otherwise ill just stick with what I have now.

Thanks again!
