Video editing PC build advice!!!

Hello,
I will be attempting my first build, and i am very hesitant about jumping right into it, seeing i have little experience and a very limited budget.

so basically, what would be your recommendations for a video-editing based PC (use with apps like Sony Vegas, Avid media composer, Photoshop, adobe after effects, Vue 8, various softwares like these)

My budget is about 750 $$. Advice much appreciated. Thanks for your time!

You can build something for $750 but you will need to add to it as you go. I would invest money into a quad core cpu from the get go and a solid motherboard.

It will be cheaper to go the AMD route.

AMD Phenom II X4 925 Deneb 2.8GHz

ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 AM3 AMD 880G

SeaSonic SS-500ET Bronze 500W ATX12V v2.31 80 PLUS BRONZE this size in case you decide to add a video card later.

Kingston ValueRAM 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333

Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB

Choose a large case so you can add more hard drives later, if you are serious about video editing you will fill 1TB pretty quick.
ASUS Black 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 24X DVD Burner

Do you have an operating system in mind?

The Intel equivalent would be an i5-750 or i7-860 on one of the Asus P7P55 series boards, and that would require a video card - if you aren't going to game something like a Radeon 4650 would be sufficient.

I have just upgraded to Avid Media Composer v 5.0.3 I had to upgrade my PC as well but could not risk self building. I ended up purchasing a...
HP Z400 Workstation
2.66gHZ Quad Core Xeon, 6Gb Ram, 500Gb Internal HDD, nVidia Quadro FX1800, Windows 7 Pro 64Bit, 2x FW800, 4x FW400, PCI e SxS Card reader and e-Sata Controller.

I am completely amazed at how fast it sucks in media from from my XDCAM EX3 cards. Literally 2 minutes to bring in 2 hours!!

Just curious, George, why those two particular processors and not in between?
