That's a pretty limited budget but not impossible to work with.
Here's where I'd start. Mobo: ASUS M4A77D AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard $79.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131618 CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 240 Regor 2.8GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM3 65W Dual-Core Processor $56.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103688 Memory: A-DATA 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model AD2U800B2G5-DRH $99.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820211188 Case: Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case $49.95 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129042 PSU: Antec EarthWatts EA-500D Green 500W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply $74.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371035 OS Apps HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive $69.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136320 Storage HDD: Western Digital Caviar Green WD15EARS 1.5TB 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive $99.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136513 Optical: LITE-ON Black 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA CD/DVD Burner - Bulk - OEM $19.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106289 Monitor: ASUS VH236H Black 23" 2ms(GTG) HDMI Widescreen Full HD 1080P LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 20000 :1 (ASCR) Built-in Speakers $199.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236059 OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders - OEM $99.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116754 Video Card: SAPPHIRE 100297L Radeon HD 5830 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card w/ ATI Eyefinity Technology $229.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102878 Total $1012 - and it should play games very nicely. You can save on the monitor by going a little smaller, or step the video card down to a HD5770 and save a little there too. This is about gaming which is all video card and monitor in my opinion. For FPS games I like using a separate Wolf King gaming keyboard and I use a Logitech MX518 mouse. |

Why do you need 2 TB in a gaming machine? I'd probably just get one hard drive for now - maybe a 1 TB WD Black. If you run out of space, then buy another drive and toss it in.
The Antec EA650 is only $5 more than the EA500 right now. |

I'll pick out the mouse and keyboard on my own, i'd like some suggestions for the monitor though.
1) What is your budget? $800-$1000 (preferably the low end) 2) Are there any brands/resellers that you prefer or any you really don't like? I like Western Digital (other than that i dont have much experience with anything else, i heard asus makes good mother boards?) 3) What tasks will you be performing with the Desktop? Gaming, watching movies/tv shows 4) Will you be playing games on it; if so, which games? Im building this computer SPECIFICALLY for gaming and watching movies so i'd like it to be as top notch as possbile within my budget for those purposes. 5) Do you mind buying parts online without seeing them in person? i dont mind. that's the plan. 6) What OS do you prefer? Windows (XP or Vista), Mac OS X, Linux, etc. i plan to use windows 7 7) How much hard drive space is needed? 2 TB's 8) What size desktop would you like?(All in one, compact, large) I don't really know what this means. 9) Does the case need to be stylish? Yes i'd like a pretty sick case 10) What resolution will the screen run at? One or Two screens? one screen, maybe upgraded to 2 screens later 11) Do you need any particular hardware?(Ports, HDD slots, double DVD drives, etc.) not that i know of 12) How would you rate your technical skills? 5 out of 10? 13) Have you ever built a desktop before? nope 14) Do you need wireless connectivity? yes but it's not SUPER important but it would be handy 15) When are you going to be building this? as soon as i get the parts 16) Have you considered a pre-built desktop? Or even a notebook? no. 17) Are you going to overclock? dont intend to at this time cuz i dont know nearly enough about it And I need 2 TB's because I have a huge amount of movies/tv shows/anime/music that has already takin up 1 TB of space. |

It's going to be difficult to get all you want for close to $800.
The OS is $100 A "Sick case" is $100 a 2TB drive is $250 a decent video card is $200 a decent monitor is $200 So you've blown $850 without a Motherboard, PSU, CPU, Memory or optical drive! With your budget I think you need to go budget on the case, and make sacrifices on the monitor. Where you don't want to go cheap is the video card. The build I have above can be stepped down to save you a little. Save $50 on the video card and go with the HD5770 vs the HD5830 Save $20 on a cheaper case Save $30 by dropping to a 22" ASUS monitor vs the 23" This is just over $900 with those changes. |

as long as it is not tied to an OEM manufacturer (like Dell or HP) you should be ok to use that Windows 7 CD.
