What are you using this computer for?
The only things I have with this is, why do you need that PCI sound card? I'd try onboard sound before purchasing a sound card. And the ram you listed technically wasn't on the QVL, however I'd stick with a 2x2GB kit if your gonna be gaming. If your gonna be editing sound or music (which is what it's seeming like with your expensive audio setup thus far) then you can always add another 2x2GB. I have never seen anyone use more than 8GB of ram in my entire life unless it was a workstation or server. Also if your going to just be gaming I'd suggest considering the i5-750, it's quite the beast on stock speeds.

I'm going to be using that sound card as part of an interface between the PC and musical instruments. I'll be working with a lot of different music software, whether it is for the writing side or the engineering side. I'll be playing games on it quite a bit as well.

How's this for memory?

I'm withdrawing my recommendation for G.skill memory, we have been seeing issues with it lately. I'd stick with Corsair, Crucial, or Kingston - and possibly A-Data.

KazigluBey, so you want to use the card for its midi interface capabilities too? If that is the only or main thing you want to use it for and the internal sound would cover the rest, you could purchase a 1 in 1 out midi interface and save quite a bit of cash. If you want to do major recording from various sources, it looks like it might be a great deal. I considered getting it myself, and still might depending on how the integrated sound works for me.

P.S. I have a 4 in 4 out midi interface, but the card as I recall only covers 1.

I'd like to be able to cover most possibilities when it comes to recording. If the card was in the $300-$400 dollar range I might look for a cheaper alternative. I'm going to be recording electric guitar and bass, not sure if I'll do anything else.

If you happen to buy it before I do, let me know what you think of it.

Looks like I'll be doing the build either during this December or January 2011. Anybody aware of any new hardware coming out then that might be worth checking out?

Holidays just around the corner

Thought I'd bump the thread and post what I have picked out currently and if there may be some better alternatives now that prices may have dropped a little since I started the thread.

Motherboard:
Newegg.com - ASUS P7P55D-E Pro LGA 1156 Intel P55 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

CPU:
Newegg.com - Intel Core i5-760 Lynnfield 2.8GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1156 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80605I5760

Memory:
Newegg.com - CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model TW3X4G1333C9A G

Power Supply:
Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply

OS:
Newegg.com - Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders - Operating Systems

Main Hard Drive (For OS):
Newegg.com - Corsair Nova CSSD-V32GB2-BRKT 2.5" 32GB SATA II Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Hard Drive (For programs):
Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Monitor:
Newegg.com - ASUS VW246H Glossy Black 24" 2ms(GTG) HDMI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 ASCR 20000:1 (1000:1) Built-in Speakers

I'm not sure about the graphics card. I do plan to game so I want something that can handle the latest games but I am not worried about trying to go overboard with multiple video cards and squeeze out every ounce of graphical goodness I can muster. $250 give or take a few dollars is where I'd like to be at.

Also I'm not going to use this computer for the home music recording setup I mentioned above. I'm going to build a stand alone system for that later.

If you are going to use a SSD for a boot drive, I'd get one bigger than 32gb. I wouldn't be comfortable with less than 64.

The best video cards in the $250 range right now are the Radeon 6870 and GTX 470. Take your pick. Asus would be good for either, Diamond or HIS for a 6870, EVGA for a 470.
