need help to build a pc: $1500 for dev & chess

hi,

i want to build a new pc, which will be used mainly for software developement and for playing chess. The demands are:
A lot of memory (and a quick one too), preferable with ECC.
As many cores as possible.
A quite system is important.

No need for graphic accelerator - any OB will be fine.
No need for OS - i'll install Windows 7 64 bit by myself.
No OC is planned, unless it's very simple and without any additional expensive cooling.
No upgrade is planned, i want the pc to be good for a few years, and then i'll buy a new one. However, i want to have the option to add memory (RAM) if i want/need in the future.

The budget does NOT include peripherals, like monitor. I would be happy to get a recommendation for an awesome 24" display costing no more than $500.

You may step out of the budget, but not too much. i gave it for you to have a clue for the amount of money i'm willing to spend, but i'm flexible to some extent.

TIA !

If you want ECC, I'd be looking at one of the Asus P7F boards and a 3400 series Xeon processor (socket 1156). Examples:

Great choice but also if you want many cores, by that I mean more than 4, you can go with an AMD 12 core system capable of up to 128GB of memory but it will take some expertise to make one of those work right for you:

2 X http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819105266

This is just an option, if 4 cores will do the trick then you should stick to what glc suggested.

Those don't look like they match, Khalil - a socket G34 processor in a 1207 board?
