Component compatibility help
Hi there, I'm new to building computers and was wondering if I could get some help as I'm not sure if these components are compatible or not:
CPU - AMD Athlon II X4 620 2.6Ghz Socket AM3 Box http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103706 Power Supply - Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 460W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...%20Plus%20460W Motherboards - Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...20GA-MA74GM-S2 Midtower chassis - Gigabyte GZ-X6BPD http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...yte%20GZ-X6BPD RAM - Kingston ValueRAM DDR2 PC6400/800MHz CL6 2GB http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?e=524812 DVD burner - Samsung SH-S223C http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-192-_-Product Graphic Card - Sapphire Radeon HD5570 HDMI 1GB http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?e=557248 3.5 inch SATA HD - Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS 32MB 1TB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-433-_-Product I was also wondering how I would be able to tell if components are compatible with each other and what it is I need to look for to find out. I'm going for a cheap computer, let me know if I'm missing any components or if the PSU is too small. Any help is greatly appreciated! |

1. Get a WD black instead of seagate. Seagate is the second best, but Western Digital is highly preferred.
2. Gigabyte mobo is OK, but their support can lag behind Asus sometimes. Other then that, what are you going to use the computer for? |

all looks good, you might consider a slightly larger power supply with that card. it is just barely above the minimum. a 500 watt aught to do you good. just for that safety margin
fyi that card is 80 bucks on newegg, only price i saw on that price spy thing was like 180

Made some changes to include DDR3:
CPU - AMD Athlon II X4 630 2.8GHz Socket AM3 Box $150 Power Supply -Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 460W $67 Motherboard - Asus M4A78LT-M LE $98 Midtower chassis - Gigabyte GZ-X6BPD $56 RAM - Kingston ValueRAM DDR3 PC10600/1333MHz CL9 2GB $80 DVD burner - Samsung SH-S223C $43 Graphic Card - Sapphire Radeon HD5570 HDMI 1GB $159 3.5 inch SATA HD - Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST31000528AS 32MB 1TB $113 Total $780 approx. all prices are in NZD, and looking to stay under 800 Machine will mostly be used for web browsing and games such as Left 4 Dead Also wondering if the PSU above is fine or should I get this for the same price: Gigabyte Superb 550P 550W http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?e=341179 Last edited by Grieving; 06-10-2010 at 02:18 AM. |

I'd get at least a 550w psu, more if your budget will allow. I prefer Antec and Corsair which tend to get pricey but I've read goodreviews about Silverstone psu's which are a little lower cost.

I just read in another thread that the 5570 isn't a good gaming card. I would consider upgrading it since it was glc that said it and he seems to the big mighty computer god around here :P

The 460 watt unit is plenty for a 5570, but not a 5770. Add Seasonic to the recommended brand list, they make several of the Antec and Corsair units.
I would recommend you buy ram in dual channel kits, not single modules. |
