Rosewill case?
I built a new pc for Mom and the case I chose is an Antec Sonatta III. The space the pc nestles into is appx 8.25" wide (according to Dad) and the Sonata is 8.1" wide. I'm a little concerned that if Dad's measurements are off a bit, the Sonata won't fit. Not sure why I didn't consider the width when buying the Sonatta, but I should've.
I think I want to buy an inexpensive, decent case and bring it with me when I deliver the pc to Mom (who lives appx 400 miles away). This way, I can transplant the components into a narrower case if I have to, and if not needed it won't cost me alot of $$$. I see Rosewill offers a few really inexpensive cases, and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with them. I'm looking for no-frills, but not garbage either. The build is really basic: an Asus M4A78L-M motherboard,w/AMD X2 245, 2x2gb Mushkin ram, LG burner The two I am eyeballing are:http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16811147090 and http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16811147116. Thoughts? |

I've used a few Rosewill cases and found them to be just fine for inexpensive builds. Rosewill psu's are a bit suspect but siince you'll be moving all items from the Sonata, just get one without a psu. I prefer ones with a 120mm fan in the back. They tend to be a bit quieter than the 80mm variety. Plus, the 120 moves more air. Rosewill cases can have some thinner metal and possible sharp edges on the inside so just be cautious.

First of all, both those links are not working.
That the Sonata III measurement may not take into account the additional width of the plastic catch for opening the left side panel. My concern here would be air flow. Obviously there is no venting on the front, and the side vents would effectively be obscured. You many want to look at one with a wire mesh front like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119161 I have a cheap NZXT Gamma that is fugly but works just fine for me. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146061 EDIT I figured out you were linking the FB-01 and FB-02 The FB-01 seems to have a vented front so that would be better in this environment.

Thanks for the replies.
PR: I read somewhere about the sharp edges. Thanks for the confirmation. I'll take care should I go with a Rosewill case. Also I will be using the EA500 power supply from the Antec, and also both cases I linked to are without a power supply anyways. I read the power supply sticky in these forums at length and no way will I try to use a brand that isn't on the good list. These forums are so helpful... Orbrit: I'll check out the cases you mentioned. "Fugly" isn't too much of an issue in this situation, so maybe I'll go with one of them. Not sure what problem there is with the links I posted. Both work for me. There is a Dell in the space that I have to put the new tower into, and breathing isn't a problem at all with it. If I go with one of the Rosewills, it'll be about 1/2" narrower than the Dell there now. The new build is very tame so I don't think heat will be an issue at all. |

Coolermaster also makes good quality inexpensive cases.
I recently used this one in a build and was impressed with the space, ease of use and cooling capabilities. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119195 |

Thanks. I looked at a few Coolermasters too.
The case wont be moved once it's at Mom and Dads, so assuming it gets to me unscathed it should suffice. I'm not even sure I'll have to use it yet. |

Quick update for anyone who may be interested:
The Rosewill case FB02 showed up today. Delivery was by Purolator ground and was included in case price. The shipping box was in good shape when it arrived but I was still apprehensive about how the case survived. Unpacking the case revealed no damage whatsoever and a pretty good packing job by Rosewill/Newegg. I have yet to actually build with the case, but it is promising so far. Hard to believe this case cost me $19.99 CDN including shipping. Most impressive in my book. |
