First build
Alright, so I've only been looking into building a PC for only a day now. I knew nothing about computers before this but I'm trying to learn. I doubt I'll actually commit to building a PC though seeing as I'll be leaving for college soon, but who knows. This will primarily be for gaming.
Anyway, here's my decently expensive setup: OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (I would choose Home, but I found Ultimate for the same price) CPU: Intel i7 core-930 2.8 GHz Video: Radeon HD 5870 1GB DDR5 Sound: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy SE (pretty cheap, but that's aight) Mobo: ASUS P6T SE (Core i7/ Intel X58/ DDR3/ CrossFireX/ A&GbE/ AT) RAM: Corsair Dominator 3x2 DDR3 core i7 Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 16MB Cache 7200RPM Case: Cooler Master CM 690 II Power: Corsair CMPSU-750TX 750-Watt TX Series Additionally, I'm also getting a Cooler Master V8 CPU cooler, and a HP 2009M 20-Inch HD LCD Monitor Tell me whatever you think of this build. Good? Bad? Enough for high-end gaming? Too expensive/cheap? Is everything compatible? Remember I literally knew nothing about computers about 20 hours ago, so help me out here. |

for gaming (especially) i would reccomend a WD caviar black.
did you read the reviews on that board? upwards of 20 percent of them came DOA or with problems. this doesnt sound like asus, but i would reccomend a different mobo. if this is going to be for gaming, i would avoid the 1366 socket in general. it is riddled with memory problems and you will find yourself very frustrated. if you really want that i7, go with the socket 1156 socket i7-860 on a p55 chipset mobo, plenty of power for gaming and save yourself alot of headaches and a couple hundred bucks.

You will need an optical drive(DVD). Asus/LiteOn/LG are good brands.
Also, unless you plan on OCing the CPU, would stay will the CPU heatsink that comes with the CPU and you keep the warranty on the CPU.
