Restart Issue

Hello,

When I click the restart button in Windows, it shuts down and performs all the relevant stages but it does not reboot the system afterwards.

With the case open, the RAM light comes on after Windows has finished shutting down and does not perform a restart.

A shutdown is able to turn off the computer and I have tried using each RAM stick by itself without problems.

Any ideas?

Which OS are you using?

What is the history behind the problem? Did it start after you made a change to the pc?

The OS is Windows 7 however the problem also appears when I save changes to the BIOS options.

The problem began when I built the computer a couple of days ago. I'm thinking the motherboard could be faulty as I have run memtest86+ on each individual stick as well as together in a dual channel.

I've tried a winpower 500W PSU and a Sweex PS040 650W PSU.

Edit: I've just noticed the BIOS was setup to configure the hard drive and optical drives as IDE (when they use SATA cables). I have switched to AHCI and used the jumper to wipe the CMOS (before changing the setting of course). Would this make a difference? (I have to reinstall Windows 7 now to double check)

Doesn't seem to have fixed the problem, getting a slightly different errror. Now when I leave the BIOS or restart from either Win7 or memtest86 the dram_led flashes constantly

Send a message via Skype™ to Nikon
your ram is quite possibly bad, after reading quite a few reviews i ran in to a couple of people with the same exact problem, and same outcome on memtest. no errors, but complete system instability.

i would recommend RMA'ing it and swapping it for some kingston or crucial, or if you cant, just purchasing some new ram, this should fix your issues.

i know people dont like to send stuff back or buy replacements, but this seems to be the only viable solution to this problem.
