Problems Installing Windows
Hey everyone,
I just built my first computer, and the process went well overall. However, I'm trying to install windows now, but when I do, the monitor I'm using suddenly says "no signal" and the computer turns off. I tried using two different monitors, but the same result happened twice. Any help/advice? |

Go into the bios and monitor the CPU temperature - what is it at idle?

When my son built his first box he didn't get the heat sink clamped down properly and had similar symptoms. If that's your problem, it will show up in the temperature readings.

It's around 40 C while idling. I dont think that's high enough to be a huge concern. The computer doesn't shut off now, but the monitor does. Could there be a problem with the graphics card?

Hmm - 40c at idle may be a lot higher under load. If it goes much over 60 it may be causing a shutdown.

Install SpeedFan, put a load on your system and then check your temperature readings.

Dave, I don't see whether Windows is successfully installed yet. If it is, you don't need Speedfan, the motherboard comes with PC Probe on the support DVD.

I figured out the problem. The fan on the graphics card wasn't spinning, so it kept overheating. Sent it back for a replacement. Thanks for the help anyway though!
