That's going to be tricky to get a decent performing gaming PC with only $150 budgeted for the PSU and GPU.

2Gb RAM is also pushing it - most games these days use 1.5 to 2Gb themselves, leaving little for the OS. If you start paging excessively, it will slow down drastically.

You may want to look at a cheap AMD build
something like this

ASUS M4A77D AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard $79.99 ($64.99 after mail in rebate)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131618

AMD Athlon II X2 250 Regor 3.0GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM3 65W Dual-Core Processor ADX250OCGQBOX $62.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103681

Kingston HyperX T1 Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model KHX8500D2T1K2/4G $93.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820104098

GPU - this may be a bit over budget but will still perform
ASUS CuCore Series EAH4850 CUCORE TOP/2DI/1GD3 Radeon HD 4850 1GB 256-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card $119.99 ($99.99 after MIR)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121380

PSU - Antec Basiq BP500U 500W Continuous Power ATX12V Version 2.01 Active PFC Power Supply $54.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371004

Case
COOLER MASTER Elite RC-310-BWN1-GP Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case $39.99 ($29.99 after MIR)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119203

Hard drive and optical choices are good

So this put's the total at $546.30 with shipping, but has $45 in Mail in rebates.
It does give you more memory than you had spec'd above, without sacrificing too much in performance. This is a gaming PC so GPU is the #1 priority.

We'll see what the experts think..

i'm not really looking into building an amd system, but thanks for the suggestions! i will take in account of the recommendation of 4gb of ram and the psu+gpu. it's okay if exceeding the budget a little is necessary, just along as it doesn't go over $550. i'm still taking more suggestions for the video card, if anyone has any!

Send a message via Skype™ to Nikon
go with the 4850. best bang for the buck in that price range.

For a gaming machine that you want to run the newer games on, the budget probably needs to come up some. Or accept running the games at low game settings, resolutions and frame rates. Or you could just run older, less resource intensive games. You may end up not being happy with your new build if your goal is to run the newer games at higher speeds.

Or perhaps buy a game console? After spending $300 for a console, the money left over would buy you a few games. Remember, some game consoles also allow you to access the internet.
