I am attempting to build my first gaming rig but I have a limited budget, $650. My main purpose is to play World of Warcraft with as close to maxed out settings as possible. I will also be using it for school and programs like Photoshop and Dreamweaver as well as viewing movies. I do like to run multiple programs at once.
Below is a list of the components I came up with. I’m not sure if all the components will work together or if it’s a good build. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Case: Chiefmax FC-5 Black and Blue Small Footprint Steel MicroATX Computer Case w/ Front USB and Audio Price: $ 27.99 http://3btech.net/chfcblandbls1.html?conf0=4 PSU: OCZ Technology OCZ600MXSP OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ600MXSP 600W Power Price: $69.99($49.99 after $20.00 Mail-In Rebate Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ogy-_-17341017 MoBo: ASUS M4N68T-M AM3 NVIDIA Geforce 7025/nForce 630a Micro ATX AMD Motherboard Price: $44.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131626&nm_mc=OTC-pr1c3watch&cm_mmc=OTC-pr1c3watch-_-Motherboards+-+AMD-_-ASUS-_-13131626" CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ955FBGMBOX Price: $159.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...AMD-_-19103808 RAM: OCZ Obsidian 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model OCZ3OB1600LV4GK Price: $95.99 ($85.99 after $10.00 Mail-In Rebate http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ogy-_-20227495 Video Card: SAPPHIRE 100293DP Radeon HD 5570 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Low Profile Ready Video Card w/ Eyefinity Price: $84.99 ($74.99 after $10.00 Mail-In Rebate http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ech-_-14102875 HDD: HITACHI Deskstar HD31000 IDK/7K (0S00163) 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Price: $69.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ies-_-22145287 Is this a good choice? Every thing looks OK but would change the HD to a WD Black.

Would this work better? It is only $20 more so it fits into the budget.

The 5570 will not give you even half maxed with World of Warcraft. It will run like a snail if you turn up the graphics.
Change the CPU to this one AMD Athlon II X2 250 Regor 3.0GHz And replace the video card with this one ASUS CuCore Series EAH5770

i run WoW on max settings on a geforce 5500fx... not even joking... but agreed, go with a lighter CPU and crank the graphics anyways, its just a good idea, and you can always go back and upgrade the cpu later if you find you need a little more, cpus are much cheaper than videocards anyways.
i would stray away from ocz. kingston valureram and a corsair 500w should be about the same price range for MUCH better quality.

is a HD 5770 going to fit in a Micro ATX Case?
What about the ATX power supply? Corsair is definitely the better PSU. If you're open to an ATX mid tower, NZXT makes good quality cheap cases. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146059 or Cooler Master http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119106

As long as it's a legal copy that's not already installed on another computer, that's cool! He can give it to you.

If you can stretch your budget a little, and want an ATX instead of Micro ATX motherboard, then consider this.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131656 It has USB 3 support I was also going to suggest a 550W Corsair PSU but the difference is only $7 with shipping so stick with the 650TX or look at a cheaper Antec like this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371030 Last edited by orbrit; 07-16-2010 at 02:55 PM. |
