Quad Core build, light gaming, heavy multi-tasking
Hey everyone,
I built my first desktop for my dad about eight years ago, but things came up and I've been out of the PC Building world for quite some time now. However, I'm heading off to college in the fall as a Software Engineering major so its time I built myself a nice desktop. I don't do much gaming...I really don't game at all. The most I'd ever do is some light Battlefield2 and all the Command and Conquer games. I do a lot of multi-tasking, however, and that is my main focus..thus going quad core. Here's what I've got so far. I would've liked to have kept my budget around 800, but I don't think that's going to happen. I don't want to go anywhere higher than were it is now, however ($1000ish). CPU - Intel i5 750 - $200 MOBO - ASUS P7P55D Pro - $170 Memory - 2x of This : $191 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820134792 Is 8gb overkill? I heard sketchy things about Corsair with this mobo so I went kingston. Any better deals? PSU - Antec 650W $100 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371021 HDD - WD Caviar Black 1TB - $100 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136533 Case - $100 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129021 Graphics - $140 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121376 I really am lost on what graphics card to get. I don't need a whole lot. Somewhere similar to that price range would be nice. Optical - $24 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827135209 I've got Windows 7, monitors, keyboards, ect, bought here locally. What do you guys think? Appreciate the help, JD |

I think either of these cards may serve you better, DX11, up to date.

The power supply is overkill, and you can save quite a bit on the motherboard by getting a P7P55D-E LX. That's also a comparatively high end case. 8gb is overkill, buy one set now and upgrade to another later if you really see the need for it.
Look at the Antec BP550 Plus. It's modular. Best GAMING video cards for the money: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...-gtx,2676.html |

I've been using mostly Antec and Coolermaster cases recently - except for high end builds I use Lian-Li.
