New gaming rig
Hello all,
So I am building a gaming rig here. I will be doing school work, gaming and playing/downloading lots of music. Going AMD and I am looking to play everything on high settings and have no issues obv. I am just building a tower because I will be using a 22 inch HDTV as a monitor(HDMI connected) and I already have mouse, keyboard, speakers. If i am missing anything please let me know. I am posting what I have for feedback on what you guys think. Any upgrades / recommendations / warnings / additions are greatly welcomed and appreciated. Thanks! I don't do AMD builds, but everything looks okay to me except the ram. G.skill has been having issues lately. To my understanding, you don't need 1600 speed ram with AMD, 1333 is good enough. I'd go for something more stable from Corsair, Crucial, Kingston, or A-Data. 1.5 volt ram would probably be best.
If you have any more wiggle room in your budget, I'd look at stronger video cards - 5800 series. |

Thanks glc for the input.
What do you think of this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102878 I wont have any issues with that card being 2.1 and my mobo being 2.0, correct? Also I will be replacing the ram with this : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820211364 Thanks again. Last edited by celestino; 07-23-2010 at 02:54 PM. |

Very good ram choice.
There is no difference in speed between 2.0 and 2.1, 2.1 just has more management features and is backwards compatible. Go for this one: $20 off w/ promo code VGA14327, ends 7/31 HIS iCooler V H583FN1GD Radeon HD 5830 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card w/Eyefinity Chipset Manufacturer: ATI Core Clock: 800MHz Effective Memory Clock: 1000MHz (4Gbps) DirectX: DirectX 11 Model #: H583FN1GD Item #: N82E16814161327 Return Policy: VGA Standard Return Policy Was: $214.99 $199.99 Free Shipping http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161327 $179.99 after the promo code, and HIS is a good brand. |

Any other ideas or comments? What do you guys think ? This gonna be a pretty sweet gaming rig that will pretty much handle a lot of games on maxed settings and still perform well. (I know i know, AMD build...)

whats that supposed to mean? amd has some mean CPUs that are just aspowerful (perhaps a LITTLE less) than intel, but for like 1/2 the price. the thing with AMD is to achieve the same performance of the big intel cpus, you have to choose your parts wisely, and understand how they work together and sync them as much as possible. but seriously, bang for the buck wise, amd kicks intel's butt up and down the street all day.
intel has hyperthreading, and yeah thats an advantage, but imho, the extra performance for the extra pricepoint is just too much. besides (afaik) most games would rather have more cores than hyperthreading. on the top end though, the 890fx chipset has had huge success, while intel's x58 is riddled with problems, up to and including inability to use the computer. afai can see, the 790fx chipset performs on par with the p55 and an equivelent cpu, but i havent compared them personally. speaking of that are you on a budget for this build? if you can squeeze 100 extra bucks, i would say go with a phenom II x6 1055t and an asus m4a89 board. the cpu and mobo you picked are good, but dated.

I was not dissing AMD, I was simply saying that I don't do AMD builds. I guess I should have also said that because of this, I couldn't comment on the suitability of the motherboard and processor because I am not familiar with them.
