New Computer -- Its Alive

If you recall about two weeks ago I decided to build a computer based on an intel i3-530 processor and an Asus P7H55-M Pro board. The first board/processor I received were a bust. I think the processor was bad, but I returned both to Newegg who accepted them without question. The replacements came today and tonight I just booted for the first time. Joy. I have to tell you the damn Intel fan is a weakness for the system. You would think they would send something that would shield the fan from the wires.

I am currently loading Ubuntu 10.04 onto the hard drive. If it is successful and I am able to use a wireless adapter, I am going to leave it and let my daughter deal with a Linux computer. It is hard for a Linux computer to come down with a virus. If I can't use the wireless adapter, well I am going to spring for Windows7. Let's see what happens.

I am really disappointed in the CPU fan. Bad planning by Intel.

And this post is from the new computer. I haven't tried wireless yet. That will wait until tomorrow.

It's not too hard to route the fan wires and zip tie them out of the way.

I know. I did.

You never know what is going to happen when you move a PC. It would be nice if the fan had a shield to protect it from every little wire that comes loose.

It has been a while since you have built - Intel hasn't had a cage around the fan since socket 478!
