$1000 ~ $1200 Gaming Computer with Video Rendering
I've been searching around the forums looking at this build at my budget... I have an idea what I have in mind...but i just need a bit help on searching for parts to accomplish what i need...(I have the Monitors/Keyboard/Mouse)
I am trying to play Starcraft 2 at Ultra High settings while connected to a TV using HDMI... (Hulu)..while connected to a second and possibly third monitor...with the graphics card not really struggling..if that makes sense (is it possible with this budget) I also have 2 cameras that I use to record family events and use windows media player to merge both...and burn to CD...so i'm guessing I also need a good processor to render the video? At the moment the only thing I see are 2 bundles.. wondering if there good... I'm open to suggestions.... Intel or AMD Thanks Phenom II X6/GIGABYTE 870 SuperCombo http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboB...t=Combo.432230 Core i5-655K/GIGABYTE H55 Gaming SuperCombo http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboB...t=Combo.432233 Starcraft II http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-003-_-Product Thanks again for the help

I'm not going to comment on the AMD combo because I don't build AMD and don't keep up with it. However, I'll paste the contents of the Intel combo and comment:
Intel Core i5-655K (Clarkdale) 3.2GHz LGA 1156 73W Dual-Core Unlocked Desktop Processor (Model: BX80616I5655K) GIGABYTE Socket 1156 Intel H55 Express Chipset HDMI Micro ATX Motherboard (Model: GA-H55M-UD2H) G.Skill Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Desktop Memory Kit (Model: F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL) Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1.5TB 7200RPM 32MB cache SATA II 3.5" Internal Hard Drive (Model: ST31500341AS) - OEM OCZ StealthXStream 700Watt ATX12V/EPS12V SLI & CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply (Model: OCZ700SXS) RAIDMAX Quantum Black SECC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case (Model: ATX-798WB) Hate to say it, but the only thing on that list I'd even consider is the case - if you like the case. I'd recommend you go a la carte and pick each component individually. |

Do your monitors or TV have an HDMI input? If so you may want to consider a card with an HDMI output in case you want to watch movies in 1080p or home videos in 1080i ... provided you have a video camera of that resolution. If you get a BluRay burner you could play and record your home videos to that format which would be nice.
I would not burn it to a CD as you said. I would at the very least burn it to a DVD. DVD's can vary quite a bit in their capacity depending on if they are single or double sided and whether they are single or dual layered. The newer DVD's have many times over the capacity of a CD. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD I looked it up and Starcraft 2 is three monitor capable. If so then consider two AMD graphics cards using Eyefinity. From what I read, Starcraft 2 is very graphics intensive with larger monitors, so two 5870's might be in order if you want three monitors. If this is the case then you will need a PSU that can power two of these cards...a 650 watt PSU won't work for two high end cards. How much more are you willing to spend to have three monitors? To do this you will need a more powerful PSU, a third monitor and a second high end graphics card. One card driving two monitors would definitely cost you less. I would definitely get a single 5870 if you are going to take the two monitor route. That's if you want to be able to play Starcraft on high settings. As far as video processing goes, a CPU with hyperthreading is helpful. An i-7 860 would work or the i-5 that was recommended. It depends on just how fast you want your video processing software to run....which is CPU and RAM dependent.

I recommend 2 minor changes - get a P7P55D-E LX and stay away from the Dominator ram.
Do not spend the huge bucks for 4gb ram modules - if you really want 8gb, get two 2x2 kits. I recommend the A-Data that jdeb recommended. |

if your going to go for the intel build, go with the p55 that GLC suggested, and go with a gtx 460 1gb (NOT the 768 one). this card should have PLENTY of power to run SCII (i play it too =D)
that AMD board doesnt have a full 32 lanes of PCIe connevtivity, for w/e reason they didnt do it even though the am3 socket supports it. also, go with an asus m4a890 for the best possible performance out of an am3 CPU. on intel, usb3 and sata6 use PCIe lanes for connectivity, so be warry of this if you choose to SLI in the future, as speeds will drop from 16x to 8x if you use usb3 devices.

Unless you will be overclocking, the standard DDR3-1333 CAS 9 1.5 volt ram is what I recommend.

yes, thats the one =D
as per tomshardware: 'The GeForce GTX 460 SLI configuration absolutely obliterates the GeForce GTX 480’s performance scores, landing a 26% performance coup de grace upon its big brother after continuously battering it with wins in every benchmark at every setting.' |

You could upgrade the processor to an i7-860, the motherboard to a P7P55D-E Pro, and/or the video card to a Radeon 5850 or 5870. You would NEED the Pro motherboard and a stronger PSU if you are contemplating SLI or Crossfire.
SLI or Crossfire does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for you in anything other than gaming. |

So pretty much the video card i had asked put on the AMD build?
GIGABYTE GV-R587UD-1GD Radeon HD 5870 (Cypress XT) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card w/ Eyefinity http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-316-_-Product if i do get this video card will i need a slightly bigger PSU or will 650 be okay? SLI or Crossfire does nothing to allow more monitors? How much more power will the i7-860 give over the i5-750? is it worth the $95 dollar difference? will i notice a significant increase in video rendering? how does this combo look..case with psu? Im comparing the Motherboards P7P55D-E LX & P7P55D-E Pro there isnt much of a difference besides the PCI slots and the onboard video... im guessing there the same in terms of performance and just have those differences mentioned above... if i get the 5870 will there be a need to use SLI? to play newer games coming out on High settings or will this card last me for a good 3 to 5 years? Stick with the Corsair, and 650 is plenty.
How many monitors do you want to use? SLI and Crossfire do not allow more monitors, they team the 2 cards together for gaming. If you want more than 2 monitors, you do need 2 independent cards or a single card that has more than 2 heads. A single 5870 will work fine until it's time to do other upgrades anyway. ATI's are Crossfire capable, not SLI. The i7 has hyperthreading, the i5 does not. Also look at the i7-870 and i5-760. I don't think I'd get that Bluray burner - commercial support only, no software, and no firmware updates available. I'd look for a retail package. Quote:

Is that case good for cable management or is there possibly a better case?
I was looking to try running 3 monitors nd another running through the TV using HDMI the GIGABYTE GV-R587UD has 2 DVI, 1 D-Sub and 1 HDMI so im guessing for now i could use the 2 DVI for 2 monitors the D-Sub...as my third and the HDMI connected to the TV? or is it limited to a certain number connected only at a time?(i can live with 2 monitors but prefer 3) with hyperthreading it basically means each physical core acts as 2 virtual cores? which will basically make the quad core run as 8 cores in theory? i see on newegg the i7-870 is the same price as the i7-860... so i should go for the 870 if thats the case? (what would you recommend) basically if i can afford it then might as well go for it? bestbuy? or frys? would be good places to check? oops correct i meant onboard audio sorry for all the questions... as i do appreciate the help i am receiving.. Never used that case, but the cable management in a Coolermaster RC690 is superb. You could also get one of the Corsair TX series power supplies, those are modular.
I do not know how many of those outputs are usable simultaneously. |

Something else to bear in mind with Eyefinity (ATI's triple monitor setup):
I have 2 x HD 5770s in Crossfire. I use a 24" monitor connected to the 1st DVI port on the primary card as my center monitor and have two 19" monitors either side, connected to DVI as well - the 2nd port on the primary card and the 1st port on the second card. This gives me 3 monitors for when I'm working/multitasking and I disable Crossfire. When I'm gaming and enable Crossfire, it disables the output from the second card. Only devices plugged into the primary card have a display output. I only game on the 24" and on the 19" secondary I sometimes monitor CPU and GPU temperatures and other performance data. If you wanted to be able to game on a triple monitor setup, using Eyefinity, you need to use 2 x DVI and the Display Port outputs from the HD5xxx card. It will not work with the DVIs and HDMI.
