First Build
I want to build a general purpose machine, I prefer an AMD processor build,my total expenditure should be $550.00 or less. I need the whole works including a LCD monitor. Can someone give me a rundown on parts I'll need.
I want a system that will be reliable for several years.Am I being over optimistic with only this amount to spend? Thanks for any input. Van |

That's a bit optimistic - you will get more machine for the $550 with a Dell when you figure the cost of a monitor, keyboard/mouse, and an operating system.

Dell or Lenevo outlet, if you are lucky. Lenovo will be Intel but they have some really good pricing. They currently have a lot of new systems over 50% off and you could go to a local store to buy a monitor or buy a scratch and dent from lenovo outlet. Free shipping from Lenovo as well
Here is a link for new one's only. http://outlet.lenovo.com/desktops.html?condition=3 Monitor http://outlet.lenovo.com/accessories/monitors.html Another possibility is if you have a Microcenter in your area. You can buy a AMD 250 cpu and get a motherboard for free. 63.00. You could do it for around that price (550.00) as long as you don't mind a Biostar motherboard. If you have a Microcenter in your area, let me know and I can spec it for you. http://www.microcenter.com/ Last edited by jdeb; 08-02-2010 at 07:25 AM. |

For your budget you may want to have a look on Craigslist as well. Someone may be practically giving away their used, but fast enough computer.
