Once Is Never Enough

I recently built a computer for my daughter. It is really great for her needs. After completing her computer I realized that my computer is the oldest on my home network but far. I don't really need to, it is still doing well, but I am thinking about a new box for me.

How does this build sound. I will reuse my current case, it will work fine. I intend to hook it up to my 42 inch TV in my man cave. The TV has an available HDMI connector.

ASUS P7H55D-M EVO LGA 1156 Intel H55 HDMI USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W Continuous Power ATX12V Ver.2.2 / EPS12V version 2.91 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC "compatible with Core i7/Core i5" Power Supply

Intel Core i5-650 Clarkdale 3.2GHz LGA 1156 73W Dual-Core Desktop Processor BX80616I5650

2 Crucial 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model CT2KIT12864BA1339 4 GB total

Western Digital AV-GP WD7500AVDS 750GB SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal AV Hard Drive -Bare Drive

ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner - Bulk - OEM

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit 1-Pack for System Builders

All for about $670 it is almost a HTPC.

1. That's a lot more power supply than you need.
2. If you want 4gb ram, get a single 2x2 kit instead of filling all 4 slots.
3. If you are going to use 4gb ram, get a 64 bit OS.

I will change to a single 2X2 kit, and buy the 64 bit OS. I had actually thought of those two on my way to the office this AM.

What power supply would you suggest? I need a quality unit that is quiet and puts out clean power. I picked the green model because I also want a PSU that is efficient.

How about this power supply? Antec EarthWatts Green EA-380D Green 380W Continuous power ATX12V v2.3 / EPS12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply. I think I only need a 300 Watt supply, but it never hurts to have a little extra available.

Nikon, here is a question. How do you define "budget build?"

CH-

What type of technology is your TV? I have a plasma that I used for a few hours as a monitor, and the static images burned in very quickly. They faded within a week of normal TV use, but it was scary to see my TV potentially ruined. Using the PC to watch full screen videos won't be a problem, but leaving the desktop up for any period of time is a bad idea.

This, of course, is a null point if you have a LCD.

LCD. I debated Plasma, but went with LCD.

I think I will buy a wireless keyboard and mouse along witih a wireless internet card or USB device and surf the web in my recliner. I get tired of sitting at a desk. I have a sony sound system and a blu ray player as well as Dish Network and a WII. I probably need another game player to make things really interesting. One of these days my family will find me dead in the recliner from inactivity but I will have a smile on my face.

Actually one of my goals is to be able to save a lot of HD content for watching later. My current DVR is fairly limited.

I bought one of these on glc's recommendation and I can't fault it. Quiet, cold air coming out the back and the build quality is phenomenal.
