Win 7 OEM
I know what OEM stands for but on newegg the OEM 64 Bit Version of Win 7 is $139 and the Retail Version is $254.
Is there any reason I could'nt or should'nt get the OEM version? |

No reason whatsoever. OEM is for system builders and comes with no support from Microsoft. Functionally, they are identical.

GLC: Aren't there licensing restrictions on OEM (tied to one motherboard only?) vs retail (can be reinstalled on different pc/motherboard so long as only one copy is installed or in use at any one time?). Something like that.

pally01, that is correct. If you do move it to another motherboard, you have to call microsoft and explain why you're moving it before they will reactivate it.

I've moved my OEM copy of XP to 4 different systems over the years and it's reactivated on line each time no problem.

It only flags if you try and reactivate too often in a short time period. Once that happens you have to activate by phone and just verbally verify that it is only installed on 1 PC.

It's set up now, you don't even have to do any explaining to a rep. It's automated, answer the questions and you'll get a new key for your install.
It's a pain though, because it 'is' automated. You have to take your time and wait for the prompts, but if you wait too long the prompts start again, and then you have to wait for the prompt to be over again. It's a timing thing. Speak too soon and she says "I didn't catch that.", and the prompt starts again. Don't speak soon enough; she says, "Are you still there?" and the prompt starts yet again. It's easy but can be very frustrating. I've only done it once without error.

I always use my keypad to enter the numbers with tone dialing.
