So i jsut finished a new computer build ( my first) and I had windows installing this morning, but I hadn't been able to get into the bios yet because I had a mac keyboard and one of the fans wasn't running so I shut down the computer in the middle (maybe a bad move in retrospect, but i was worried).
That issue is resolved, but I cannot install the windows 7 DVD because I get"bootmgr is missing" what do I do to get this computer working? I was trying to figure a way to format the drive maybe but I don't know what to do. the motherboard is a gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R. please help |

Make sure the DVD drive is set first in the boot order in the bios.

I believe it is, anyway by bios drive optioons are: Floppy, ls120, hard disk, CDrom, zip, usb-fdd, usb-zip, usb-cdrom, USB hdd, legacy lan, and disabled. I have it set as cdrom. the hard drive, a western digital is in IDE channel 0 and the asus dvd/cd read/write is in ide channel1.
CDrom is First Boot Device, Hard Disk is second boot device, third is disabled because I only have two drives, and Quickboot is disabled by default. The one thing that worries me is that my gigabyte board has a four pin header for cd in which i didn't utilize because there was no four pic cable in the asus box. (no manual or cables came with the asus just a drivers cd or dvd I haven't checked which) applreciate yourr help. what now? |

there's also hard disk boot priority with only two options, CH1 my WD hard drive and bootable add-in cards. should my DVD show up in this list?
isn't there a way to just format the hard drive and erase everything that I previoously installed? there's nothing on there worth any sentimental value. soemone mentioned to me formatting in the fios? |

Why are you using IDE?
The 4 pin header is only for analog audio, which hasn't been used for years. You have to get it to boot to the CD/DVD to reformat it. System specs, please. |

thanks for the help. I got my computer working by creating a bootable disk of the ultimate boot disk and created partitions which formatted the drive and allowed me to install windows.
side issue, my usb 3.0 ports are not working and I can't figure out why. all usb options in the bios are turned on, so ***? my motherboard is a gigabyte ga-x58a-ud3r. anyone know? but thanks regardless |

Have you installed the USB 3.0 drivers?

All the drivers you need should have come on a CD or DVD with the motherboard. Generally, the first driver you need to install is the Intel chipset driver.
