need a new system

I built my pc a looooonnngg time ago with the help of folks here. Thanks. I just saw the add for Mafia 2 and since I replayed the game a while back thought it was time to build me a new system. I went to the web site and found out the requirements for the game. They are:
Minimum System Requirements
OS: Windows XP/Vista/7
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 3.0 GHz / AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+
Memory: 1.5 Gb
Hard Drive: 8 Gb free
Video Memory: 512 Mb
Video Card: nVidia GeForce 8600 / ATI Radeon HD 2600
Sound Card: DirectX Compatible
DirectX: 9.0c
Keyboard
Mouse
DVD Rom Drive

Recommended System Requirements
OS: Windows XP/Vista/7
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad @ 2.5 Ghz / AMD Phenom X4 @ 2.5 Ghz
Memory: 2 Gb
Hard Drive: 10 Gb free
Video Memory: 1 Gb
Video Card: nVidia GeForce 9800 GTX / ATI Radeon HD 3870
Sound Card: DirectX Compatible
DirectX: 9.0c
Keyboard
Mouse
DVD Rom Drive

I know my present system will not run it. What changes would I have to make? Remember, I'm living on a fixed income now. Thanks.

You're looking at a complete re-build.

With the exception of the Audigy sound card (Creative finally saw the light.) and possibly the case/power supply there's very little you can carry over and it's possible that you'll not be able to use your printer/scanner (Should you have one) without an adapter and you may run into problems with keyboard and mouse.
The optical drives are IDE so if the motherboard doesn't have a legacy IDE connector you're out of luck there as well. Nor will any software carry over to Win7 ( That's not really bad since Win7 has DVD burning software of it's own, including ISO ability.).

We should be able to get you back in game for around $1,000.00 and give you some future proofing.
Are you firmly Intel or will AMD be acceptable ?

Let us know and we'll get you some shopping lists.

That's old information. All current CPU's run at acceptable temperatures.
