Wont power on

Hi,

I'm trying to power on a computer I just built. But it won't. Does it matter that it (the power supply: Newegg.com - ePOWER EP-500NE-XV 500W ATX12V v2.2 / ESP12V v2.91 Power Supply - Power Supplies) doesn't have an ATX 4-pin Power Connector? I did connect the ATX 24-pin Power Connector.

Thank you.

full system specs, especially mobo please.

yes it matters. if your mobo has a 4 pin connector you must have a psu with that connector, else the cpu gets no power, and therefore the computer will do nothing.

your motherboard requires a 4 pin connector for the cpu, and im afraid that your current psu will not power that mobo. i have never heard of epower, so i dont know how their quality is.

i would recommend:
Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W ATX12V V2.2 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply

there are prolly cheaper ones, but i am a corsair fan, and they are extremely good quality. this one has the required connector. i chose this one because the 450w was listed out of stock on newegg.

4 of the pins could seperate from from the 24, so now I have 20 on the 24 receiver as the mobo manual says is fine. I placed the other 4 on the ATX 4-pin Power Connector. Still nothing,

Msi said: "Verify that case power switch is working

• Bypass case switch by shorting power switch pins on motherboard with small screwdriver"

Anyone know how to do this?

This power supply has a great Newegg rating. I don't see the problem. I tried my old power supply and it didn't power on. I'm thinking it might be that case power switch.

Newegg ratings don't mean anything. Go by the ratings that the professional computer builders in this forum have given to the different power supply manufacturers. Experience beats inexperience every time.

The PSU you have is inadequate for the job. It does not provide all the power connectors that the motherboard requires. No amount of monkeying around with the existing connectors is going to fix this. Do you really want to risk damaging other hardware by doing this? It's time to purchase a PSU that will work.

Go with the PSU that Nikon originally recommended. It's a high quality unit at a fair price.

Whoa, folks.

That power supply has an 8 pin connector that separates into two 4 pins. THAT is what you use in the 4 pin aux CPU connector. All 24 pins on the main connector should be used.

Epower units are cheap, but not total garbage. It should power that system okay.

Solved

Problem was I had the motherboard directly connected to the case. Thank you for all of your fine solutions.
