First Time Build
hey guys, it's my first time building my own pc from scratch and I didn't know anything about building a pc until I came across this forum. I have read the stickies and I have a pretty good idea on things, but a little help would go a long way
![]() Anyways, I want to build a PC for high end gaming (video settings turned all the way up!) with HD support. My budget is around $600-$800. My budget is for the tower only. I don't know which brand is better for certain parts, so you guys are going to have to help me out here :P I need help from choosing the case to building it all together. I'm planning to make it a Windows XP machine too. So what I'm asking for you guys is to tell me where I should get these parts from and if it would be easy for someone building his first pc rather than just buying a made one for a few hundred dollars more. Thanks guys. |

Try NCIX.com - Canada's Premier Computer Store - Great Technology, Service and Selection.
Search for the same components, if the price is higher than newegg.ca, NCIX does price match.

If you're not concerned with looks or any super-special/specific features in a case, I'd say that one'd do fine. It has enough bays for future expansion and plenty of room, from the looks of it. I just don't know how long that video card is, maybe you could peruse through the customer reviews in the ncix's website for people who may have had problems with a video card hitting the hard drive or something.

First link:
You want a Black, not a Blue. You do not need a sound card. Onboard sound is plenty good enough these days. You do not need a CPU cooler, the CPU comes with one. 350 watts is nowhere near enough power for a system with a 5850. Second build: Same hard drive comment. Same sound card comment. Same cooler comment. I prefer that mobo over the Gigabyte in the first system. Take the second build, drop the sound card and cooler, upgrade the hard drive to a Black, and you have a winner. Sorry, but you can't even come close to a good gaming system for $800 CDN. |

It's closer to $1200 USD and up and for a really good gaming system. "Really" is a relative term as well.
Much of that is dependent on the processing power of the graphics card.

If you really want to learn more about it, and know your system well, Do It Yourself. Follow the advice of the experts on here, and you'll be fine. The skills required to physically install components are a working knowledge of a philips head screwdriver, and a certain degree of common sense (that's a disclaimer ). I've compared the level of difficulty to using Legos. Some people don't care about HOW their PC works, just so long as it does. There is nothing wrong with that. Good luck either way.
