First Build - Feedback please
Hey all, I'm going to be building my first PC and I have picked out the parts. I just want to make sure everything is compatible with each other, and I have chosen the best parts for the price. Keep in mind I live in Canada and will purchase parts mostly from Canada Computers
Case: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...374&CatId=3428 CPU: http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=027383 Mobo: http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=026043 ram: http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=026157 gpu: http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=026405 psu: http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=032195 hd: http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=027644 monitor: http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=031257 network card (because i have to use wireless): http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=027836 keyboard: http://www.canadacomputers.com/produ...item_id=031809 It totals at around 940$ Canadian before taxes. This computer will be used mainly for work, cs source, and occasionally a newer game. I dont really want to go too much over the $940 it costs as of now, so keep that in mind if you are suggesting other parts. Last edited by ssu101; 08-22-2010 at 04:47 PM. |

Looks good except for the RAM.
Try Corsair instead.

G. Skill is a bad brand, or is that particular one not good? How does this one look?
Corsair DDR3, 1600MHz 4GB 2x240 DIMM, Unbuffered, 8-8-8-24, XMS3 DOMINATOR |

G.skill has been having quality issues. You don't need 1600 speed ram with tight timings unless you are going to be overclocking - which I would not do in a small case like that - Corsair is great ram, but I'd use their standard XMS3, not the Dominator.
I'd also use a WD Black drive instead of a Seagate if you can find a good deal. You are missing an optical drive. If you need to cut costs, you really don't need 750 watts with that video card - 500 is plenty good enough if you stick with a quality brand. Another vendor to check is NCIX in Vancouver. |

As per your feedback, i've made a couple changes
psu: Corsair Gaming Series CMPSU-600G 600W Power Supply | Canada Computers hd: Western Digital Caviar Black (WD5001AALS) 500GB SATAII 7200RPM 32MB Cache (OEM) | Canada Computers Sorry i'm kind of new to the whole computer building thing, what did you mean I dont need 1600 ram? Does my mobo not support it, or do you feel it's not worth it? Anyways, how does this one look? ram: Corsair XMS3 Classic 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz CL9 DIMM, Optimized for Core i5, i7, Core 2 and AMD Phenom II (TW3X4G1333C9A) | Canada Computers Last edited by ssu101; 08-22-2010 at 06:53 PM. |

That classic ram is what I'd choose. Unless you overclock, 1600 ram is only going to run at 1333.

Of course, as long as you add an optical drive! Gonna need it to install your OS and software.
