Buying PC parts off Amazon?

Hey all, first post here, but have looked at the forums here for awhile. Thought I would jump in finally and see what people think. I am thinking about building my own PC, but it would be my first build. I have upgraded and added parts to existing computers before but never built from the mobo up. Anywho, my real question at this time is this: I am an Amazon Prime member and really love getting free 2day shipping for a lot of other things I buy during the year. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about buying parts for a new build off Amazon? I have looked up parts and researched a lot of hypothetical builds, and most of the parts that people recommend are there (albeit a little more expensive than newegg). But wondering if their return policy/warehouse direct parts are as good to go with as say Newegg? (shipping/handling conditions and customer service if any problem) Anyways, would love to hear what people think, and sorry for all the opening exposition. Thanks in advance!

I buy a lot of things from Amazon. I am not a prime member (tried it out, but can't stand the thought of paying that much to join.) I have bought some computer parts like an external floppy and am actually trying to see about getting a monitor from there (checking out their returns policy as much as I can). In my case, I would maybe use the free super saver shipping (that is what I normally do.) My price would be about the same once I pay shipping at Newegg. The reason I am considering from Amazon is I understand Newegg won't accept returns unless there are more than 8 dead pixels. I am trying to find out what Amazon's stance is. Another thing is that Amazon pays return shipping if products are defective or incorrect. Newegg might or might not. I think it depends. They don't really take responsibility for defective items whereas Amazon does.) was going to pose the monitor question here (asking to some degree what you are.)

Of course since you are using prime, you would need to get directly from Amazon and not one of the companies that advertise there or marketplace sellers, but you know that. So, although Amazon is a bit strange a place to do a total build (since they are more of a department store) getting factory fresh stuff from them should be fine I would think. Newegg doesn't really offer tech support or assistance and their return policies seems to be similar (maybe better is some ways, but they might not have as many useful links to contacting the manufacturers.)

So, assuming they have the parts you are looking for I don't know that you would be worse off overall.

It's very safe buying parts from Amazon. You can often save and/or get them faster. Another place where you can sometimes save considerably is if you have a local Microcenter store, especially on CPU's.

I have been ordering many of my parts from Amazon. The original reason was because do do not have to pay 9.75% state sales tax immediately. I would have to by ordering through Newegg. I have had absolutely no problems with Amazon. Even before taxes, the prices are frequently lower than Newegg.

There are some differences in their returns for computers (and parts might be considered the same.)

Thanks for all your comments guys. I have a couple builds with parts picked out from Amazon (all from Amazon direct, for the free prime shipping of course ). Will probably ask more questions about builds and general questions as I get closer to ordering the parts, but really helpful advice for right now. Cheers!
